Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Serve as the single, accountable Product Owner for one or more agile teams, owning the product backlog, prioritization decisions, and acceptance criteria to maximize product value and business outcomes.
- Define and maintain a clear, outcome-driven product roadmap aligned to company strategy and OKRs, communicating priorities and trade-offs to engineering, design, and business stakeholders.
- Translate high-level business objectives into well-formed epics, features, and user stories with clear acceptance criteria to ensure the development team can deliver usable increments each sprint.
- Prioritize the backlog using a combination of business value, customer impact, technical dependencies, cost of delay, and data insights to optimize throughput and ROI.
- Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers and user researchers to validate product concepts, create prototypes, and ensure user-centered design is reflected in backlog items and acceptance criteria.
- Participate actively in sprint ceremonies — sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives — to ensure continuous delivery and iterative improvement.
- Act as the primary liaison between stakeholders (product, marketing, sales, support, legal) and the delivery team, managing expectations, clarifying requirements, and ensuring alignment.
- Define measurable product success metrics and KPIs (activation, retention, conversion, revenue, NPS) and use analytics (SQL, product analytics tools) to measure the impact of releases and inform prioritization.
- Drive discovery activities, including user interviews, usability testing, A/B testing, market research, and hypothesis testing to validate assumptions before significant investment.
- Create and maintain clear documentation in Confluence, product requirement docs and release notes to support organizational transparency and handoffs.
- Manage release planning and coordinate go-to-market activities with cross-functional teams to ensure timely, high-quality launches and appropriate stakeholder communication.
- Facilitate effective decision-making by providing data-backed trade-off analysis and product scenarios to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Ensure technical debt is tracked, prioritized and balanced against new feature development with the engineering team to preserve long-term velocity and system health.
- Coach and influence the team on Agile principles and product mindset, helping refine workflows for better predictability and quality.
- Manage external vendor relationships and integrations when necessary, overseeing requirements, acceptance criteria and QA to ensure delivery meets product standards.
- Monitor competitor products, market trends, and regulatory changes to proactively adapt product strategy and backlog priorities.
- Build and maintain user personas and journey maps to guide feature prioritization and ensure solutions meet user needs across segments.
- Lead post-release analysis and run retrospectives on product outcomes to capture learnings and feed them into the backlog as improvements or experiments.
- Balance short-term tactical execution with long-term product vision, ensuring the team delivers on immediate commitments while making progress toward strategic milestones.
- Negotiate scope, timelines, and priorities across stakeholders to maintain focus on the highest-value outcomes and resolve conflicting business needs.
- Support capacity planning and release cadence decisions, providing input on team velocity, dependencies, and risk mitigation to product leadership.
- Own product compliance and security requirements in collaboration with legal, security and operations teams; translate regulatory constraints into actionable backlog items.
- Evangelize the product internally and externally, sharing roadmap updates, success metrics and customer stories to build alignment and enthusiasm.
Secondary Functions
- Support ad-hoc analytics requests and collaborate with data teams to create dashboards and reports that measure product performance and user behavior.
- Contribute to the broader product strategy by participating in quarterly planning, PI planning or roadmap workshops with portfolio managers and other product owners.
- Mentor junior product owners or business analysts on writing effective user stories, acceptance criteria, and prioritization techniques.
- Assist in creating go-to-market collateral and sales enablement material to support product launches and feature announcements.
- Participate in vendor selection and contract review discussions to ensure third-party solutions align with product goals and technical requirements.
