Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Command and operate the aircraft as Pilot-in-Command (PIC), ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant flight operations at all times.
  • Conduct detailed pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, fuel calculation, route selection, and aircraft performance assessment.
  • Supervise and coordinate with the First Officer, cabin crew, and ground operations to ensure all pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight procedures are completed accurately.
  • Verify aircraft airworthiness by reviewing maintenance logs, inspection reports, and conducting walk-around safety checks.
  • Make critical in-flight decisions regarding navigation, route adjustments, or diversions to ensure safety and compliance with FAA, EASA, or applicable aviation authorities.
  • Manage all aspects of crew resource management (CRM), ensuring effective communication and teamwork in the cockpit.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), checklists, and emergency protocols.
  • Monitor flight instruments, engine performance, and fuel consumption to optimize efficiency and safety throughout the flight.
  • Communicate effectively with air traffic control (ATC), dispatchers, and airline operations centers regarding flight status, weather, and routing updates.
  • Lead the crew during abnormal or emergency situations, executing appropriate procedures with calm authority.
  • Maintain detailed flight logs and documentation for compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and brief cabin crew on flight details, turbulence, expected weather, and passenger service considerations.
  • Conduct post-flight debriefings and report any mechanical or operational issues to maintenance and operations teams.
  • Provide mentorship and flight instruction to junior pilots and First Officers.
  • Ensure compliance with aviation security and passenger safety regulations at all times.
  • Represent the airline with professionalism and uphold its safety, operational, and customer service standards.
  • Evaluate flight plans and performance data to ensure efficient use of fuel and adherence to environmental standards.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Valid Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) issued by an accredited aviation authority.
  • Extensive flight hours (typically 3,000–5,000+ total time, with command experience on multi-engine jet aircraft).
  • Proficiency with modern avionics, Flight Management Systems (FMS), and Autopilot systems.
  • Strong understanding of aerodynamics, meteorology, navigation systems, and flight performance calculations.
  • Knowledge of FAA/EASA operational regulations, ICAO procedures, and airline SOPs.
  • Expertise in Crew Resource Management (CRM) and Threat and Error Management (TEM) principles.
  • Experience managing complex flight operations including long-haul, international, and multi-crew environments.
  • Ability to perform detailed fuel planning, payload analysis, and weight-and-balance computations.
  • Proficiency in handling emergency procedures, in-flight decision-making, and aircraft systems troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with advanced cockpit technology, including EFIS, ADS-B, CPDLC, and electronic flight bags (EFBs).
