Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct pre-flight and post-flight inspections to ensure aircraft airworthiness, fuel levels, and system readiness.
  • Plan flight paths by analyzing weather reports, fuel requirements, airspace restrictions, and alternate airports.
  • Operate the aircraft safely during all phases of flight including takeoff, cruising, descent, and landing.
  • Communicate effectively with air traffic control (ATC) to receive and acknowledge clearances, instructions, and updates.
  • Monitor engine performance, fuel consumption, and aircraft instruments to maintain optimal flight efficiency.
  • Adhere strictly to all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and airline safety regulations.
  • Manage cockpit resource management (CRM) to ensure collaboration, communication, and decision-making with the co-pilot and crew.
  • Respond to in-flight emergencies and system malfunctions using standard operating procedures (SOPs) and checklists.
  • Make critical decisions regarding flight deviations, weather avoidance, or alternate routing to ensure safety.
  • Supervise flight attendants and other crew members in ensuring passenger comfort and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Review flight plans and dispatch reports, adjusting routes or fuel loads as necessary based on real-time conditions.
  • Maintain detailed flight logs and reports for regulatory and company records.
  • Perform regular training and simulator sessions to maintain certifications and proficiency in multiple aircraft types.
  • Manage and monitor communication systems, navigation aids, and autopilot systems.
  • Coordinate closely with maintenance teams to report technical discrepancies or mechanical concerns.
  • Conduct passenger announcements, ensuring calm and clear communication in the event of delays or turbulence.
  • Ensure compliance with duty time limitations and fatigue management standards.
  • Participate in recurrent training, simulator evaluations, and safety briefings as required by the airline.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Deep understanding of aerodynamics, meteorology, and air navigation principles.
  • Knowledge of FAA, EASA, and ICAO regulations and safety procedures.
  • Experience with advanced flight simulators and continuous proficiency testing.
  • Strong ability to interpret flight plans, NOTAMs, METARs, and TAFs.
  • Competency in radio communication protocols and air traffic coordination.
  • Skilled in fuel management, weight and balance calculations, and flight performance optimization.
