Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Safely operate a variety of airport vehicles, including passenger shuttles, crew transport vans, baggage tugs, catering trucks, and cargo vehicles.
  • Transport airline crew, passengers, VIPs, and airport personnel between terminals, aircraft stands, hotels, and maintenance facilities.
  • Ensure punctual and efficient pick-up and drop-off according to flight schedules and dispatch instructions.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, checking for mechanical issues, tire pressure, fuel levels, and cleanliness.
  • Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage records, and fuel consumption reports per company and regulatory requirements.
  • Comply with all FAA, TSA, and airport authority regulations governing airside vehicle operations.
  • Coordinate with dispatchers, operations control, and security teams to receive assignments and confirm route clearance.
  • Safely navigate active runways and taxiways while maintaining communication with ground control and following directional signage.
  • Assist passengers with luggage handling, wheelchair support, and boarding or disembarking as needed.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure comfort, safety, and accessibility for all passengers.
  • Report vehicle malfunctions, safety hazards, or security incidents to supervisors immediately.
  • Adhere to airport speed limits, safety zones, and security checkpoints at all times.
  • Deliver mail, packages, and aircraft supplies across airport facilities as directed.
  • Conduct airside towing and cargo transport operations following strict ground safety procedures.
  • Follow environmental and fuel efficiency protocols to minimize operational impact.
  • Assist with aircraft servicing logistics, including catering and crew coordination.
  • Operate under varying weather and lighting conditions while maintaining focus and control.
  • Perform vehicle parking, staging, and maintenance coordination at designated airport zones.
  • Support emergency response efforts during aircraft diversions, equipment failures, or evacuation procedures.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining discretion and professionalism, especially when serving airline crew and VIP passengers.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or Airport Ground Vehicle Operator Permit (AVOP).
  • Strong knowledge of airport geography, airfield signage, and runway/taxiway procedures.
  • Ability to operate specialized airport vehicles such as tugs, vans, and buses.
  • Familiarity with radio communication systems and dispatch coordination protocols.
  • Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and pre-trip inspection standards.
  • Compliance knowledge with TSA security and FAA safety regulations.
