Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Marshal and guide commercial and general aviation aircraft to and from stands and parking positions using standardized marshalling signals and equipment, ensuring precise positioning for passenger boarding, cargo handling and maintenance activities.
- Conduct and document pre-position checks and daily inspections of airside equipment (tugs, ground power units (GPU), belt loaders, dollies, de-icing rigs), tagging out defective equipment and escalating maintenance issues to avoid operational delays.
- Perform safe and accurate pushback and towing operations using certified pushback tractors and follow airport and airline pushback procedures, maintaining continuous radio communication with flight crew and ground control.
- Execute aircraft turn-around duties including aircraft doors and airstairs operation, cabin access fostering for catering and cleaning teams, coordination of baggage and cargo loading/unloading while observing weight-and-balance constraints.
- Operate and coordinate aircraft de-icing and anti-icing processes during low-temperature operations, following specified fluid types, concentrations and environmental protection requirements; liaise with de-icing supervisors to meet turnaround windows.
- Oversee and monitor aircraft refuelling activities by coordinating with fuel suppliers, verifying fuel order details and ensuring conformance with fueling safety procedures and fueling exclusion zones.
- Maintain situational awareness of the airside environment, proactively identify hazards (FOD, wildlife, vehicle movements) and take immediate corrective action or report through proper channels to prevent runway/incursion events.
- Enforce airside access control and vehicle movement rules; check and validate airside driving permits, ensure vehicles display required permits and follow apron speed limits, routes and right-of-way protocols.
- Communicate continuously with Air Traffic Control (ATC), airline operations, cabin crew and ground service partners to manage slots, taxi times and gate availability, minimizing waiting times and optimizing aircraft turnaround.
- Conduct routine Foreign Object Debris (FOD) walks and searches around ramp, apron and gate areas; log findings and coordinate cleanup operations to protect aircraft from FOD damage.
- Handle irregular operations and operational disruptions (delays, diversions, technical turns) by coordinating rapid recovery plans with airlines, ground handlers and customer service teams while maintaining safety compliance.
- Execute and document incident and safety reports for occurrences such as ground damage, fuel spills, bird strike sightings or near-misses; contribute to root cause investigations and corrective action plans.
- Apply Dangerous Goods (DGR) awareness by identifying incorrectly declared/handled items, isolating suspect cargo and notifying the appropriate station/airline Dangerous Goods officer per IATA regulations.
- Support airside security requirements by enforcing sterile zone boundaries, conducting vehicle searches when necessary, reporting suspicious activities and cooperating with airport policing/AVSEC teams.
- Maintain accurate turnaround documentation, load sheets, service records and handover notes using airport operational systems (AODB, FIDS, ground handling software), ensuring traceability of actions for audit and safety purposes.
- Provide on-the-spot training, mentoring and supervision of new ramp staff and contractors during busy operations to ensure consistent adherence to SOPs and safety practices.
- Monitor weather and NOTAMs affecting airside operations and adjust procedures for wind, visibility, runway contamination and other meteorological impacts while informing stakeholders of potential delays.
- Participate in planned and unplanned runway, taxiway or stand closures by coordinating alternative parking, repositioning aircraft and communicating changes to flight crews and control towers.
- Support aircraft turnaround efficiency initiatives by suggesting process improvements, reporting bottlenecks and contributing to operational debriefs to reduce ground time and improve on-time performance.
- Ensure environmental and spill-prevention procedures are followed when handling de-icing fluids, fuel or other hazardous materials, and assist with containment and reporting if an incident occurs.
- Adhere to and promote Safety Management System (SMS) principles by actively participating in briefings, risk assessments, toolbox talks and safety campaigns.
- Operate apron lighting and gate/bridge systems safely, coordinating with the station electrician or service provider when automated systems fail or require adjustment.

Secondary Functions
