Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop and execute daily, weekly and monthly allocation plans by SKU, channel and location to align supply with forecasted demand, promotional calendars and inventory targets while minimizing stockouts and markdown risk.
  • Analyze historical sales velocity, sell-through rates, and seasonality at the SKU-store/DC level to recommend forward allocations and replenishment orders that maximize on-hand productivity.
  • Calculate initial and replenishment allocations using inventory optimization techniques including safety stock, lead-time adjustments, batch sizing, and service-level targets.
  • Monitor inbound receipts, current on-hand inventory, and pipeline availability to adjust allocations in real time and communicate exceptions to supply planning and operations teams.
  • Partner with Merchandising and Assortment teams to translate assortment changes, new product launches and promotional plans into phased allocation schedules and launch replenishment strategies.
  • Collaborate with Demand Planning to reconcile forecast variances and implement allocation overrides or pull-forward/push-back strategies to mitigate stock imbalances.
  • Configure and maintain allocation rules and parameters in ERP/WMS/OMS systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Manhattan, Blue Yonder) and validate system-generated allocations against business objectives.
  • Own allocation governance, including weekly cadence calls, scorecards and SLA-driven dashboards that measure fill rate, on-time allocation, excess inventory and markdown exposure.
  • Lead SKU-level investigations on slow-moving, stranded or excess inventory and drive reallocation, clearance or return-to-vendor actions in coordination with finance and commercial teams.
  • Execute plan adjustments during promotions, product launches, supplier disruptions or transportation delays, providing rapid scenario analysis and recommended actions to stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present allocation rationale, trade-offs and recommended actions to merchandising leads, store operations managers and senior supply chain leadership.
  • Configure and test allocation logic changes, rule engine updates and system integrations during IT projects and system enhancements to ensure allocation accuracy post-deployment.
  • Maintain accurate master data (lead times, pack sizes, minimum order quantities, replenishment nodes) and escalate data anomalies to Data Governance or IT for correction.
  • Support cycle count and physical inventory reconciliation activities by providing expected allocation quantities and investigating variances between system and physical counts.
  • Generate and maintain KPI and executive dashboards (Power BI, Tableau, Excel) that track allocation effectiveness including fill rate, days of cover, inventory turns and forecast accuracy.
  • Execute SKU rationalization and age analysis programs to identify candidates for promotion, relocation, or discontinuation, and implement approved disposition plans.
  • Negotiate allocation trade-offs between channels (e-commerce vs. stores) and prioritize inventory based on financial impact, strategic initiatives and customer service targets.
  • Implement continuous improvement projects to streamline allocation processes, reduce manual intervention, and increase allocation automation and accuracy.
  • Provide mentorship and day-to-day guidance to junior planners, ensuring consistent application of allocation rules and best practices across the planning team.
  • Support financial planning by providing inventory impact analysis for markdowns, write-offs and working capital forecasts tied to allocation decisions.
  • Maintain strict adherence to compliance, audit requirements and internal controls relating to inventory movement, allocations and record-keeping.
  • Run ad-hoc scenario modeling and sensitivity analysis to quantify the impact of alternative allocation approaches (e.g., centralized vs. hub-and-spoke) on service levels and stock positions.
  • Coordinate with procurement and third-party logistics partners to ensure alignment of supplier allocations, delivery windows and distribution capacity with allocation plans.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment during peak seasons and promotional events to ensure adequate inventory coverage and timely replenishment for prioritized channels.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc reporting requests and exploratory analyses from merchandising, operations and finance to support decision-making.
  • Contribute to the organization's allocation strategy and roadmap; recommend tool, process and rule improvements for scalable allocation management.
  • Collaborate with IT and data teams to translate business requirements into configuration and technical specifications for allocation engines and integrations.
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies when supporting allocation system enhancements or custom reporting development.
  • Train store operations and regional planners on allocation policies, escalation paths and use of allocation tools and dashboards.
  • Assist in vendor allocation communications and co-managed inventory initiatives, ensuring supplier commitments are reflected in allocation rules.
  • Participate in audit and SOX compliance activities related to inventory movement, allocation approvals and master data controls.
  • Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for allocation processes, system use and exception handling.
