Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Supervise, train and mentor a team of aluminum cladding installers, fabricators and subcontractors on-site to ensure correct installation techniques, adherence to shop drawings and consistent workmanship across the façade scope.
- Read, interpret and enforce compliance with architectural drawings, structural details, shop drawings, installation manuals and manufacturer specifications for curtain wall, storefront, metal panel and composite panel systems.
- Plan, sequence and schedule daily and weekly installation activities, coordinating crew allocation, subcontractors, crane and rigging operations to meet project milestones and minimize downtime.
- Perform and document field layout, template checks, dimensional verification and as-built measurements to ensure panels, mullions and anchors align within specified tolerances.
- Oversee anchorage installation, mechanical fastenings, thermal break installation and integration of expansion joints, ensuring structural integrity and performance of the cladding system.
- Manage sealant application, flashing and waterproofing installation at interfaces, penetrations and transitions to prevent air and water infiltration and meet building envelope performance criteria.
- Conduct quality control inspections at critical stages—substrate preparation, setting anchors, mullion alignment, panel fit-up and final finish—to identify defects early and prevent rework.
- Coordinate delivery, staging and protection of aluminum panels, glass and accessories on site; verify material quantities, inspect for damage and liaise with suppliers to resolve discrepancies.
- Lead pre-installation meetings and conduct site mock-ups and sample panels for client and architect approval; adjust installation means and methods based on mock-up feedback.
- Direct rigging, hoisting and lifting operations for heavy panels and curtain wall units; ensure certified riggers and lifting equipment meet capacity and safety requirements.
- Maintain detailed daily logs, time sheets, material consumption reports, installation progress photos and field reports for project managers and contract documentation.
- Respond to RFIs, submittal comments and technical queries in coordination with project engineering and shop drawing teams to resolve field issues quickly.
- Manage punch lists and final acceptance activities including corrective work, final cleaning, touch-ups, and handover documentation to achieve practical completion.
- Enforce all site safety programs, conduct toolbox talks, ensure fall protection, scaffold and access compliance and maintain a zero-incident focus in line with OSHA and company safety policies.
- Supervise site testing and commissioning activities related to the cladding system (e.g., water infiltration tests, movement testing) and coordinate third‑party inspections as required.
- Implement productivity tracking and progress forecasting; identify bottlenecks, propose corrective actions and optimize crew deployment to meet schedule targets.
- Coordinate interface work with other trades such as structural steel, roofing, glazing, waterproofing and insulation contractors to ensure proper sequence and integration.
- Control project-specific inventory and tooling—fasteners, sealants, gaskets, anchors—track usage and requisition materials proactively to avoid installation delays.
- Ensure proper protection of finished panels and site housekeeping to prevent damage during installation operations and subsequent trades work.
- Provide hands-on technical support and troubleshooting for non-conforming work, complex detail installations, and on-site modifications while ensuring design intent is retained.
- Execute change order documentation for field-driven scope changes, including labor cost, material takeoffs and schedule impacts for review by project management.
- Maintain relationships with manufacturers and technical reps to ensure warranty-compliant installation methods and access to up-to-date product information and training.
- Mentor apprentices and junior installers, provide on-the-job training in safe rigging, reading fabrication drawings, and correct mechanical fastening and sealant techniques.
Secondary Functions
- Prepare weekly installation progress forecasts and manpower plans for the project management team.
- Assist in the review of submittals, shop drawings and material samples to confirm constructability and on-site coordination prior to fabrication.
- Support commissioning and closeout documentation including warranties, O&M manuals and as-built records for façade systems.
- Participate in safety audits, incident investigations and corrective action plans to continuously improve field safety performance.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by suggesting tooling, layout or sequencing changes that increase efficiency and reduce waste.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and calibration for torque tools, hoists and measuring devices to ensure accuracy and safety.
- Facilitate client walkthroughs, provide technical explanation of field work and address client/architect comments promptly.
- Maintain crew certification records, training logs and ensure all personnel maintain required trade and safety credentials.
- Support procurement and vendor selection by providing field input on constructability, lead times and preferred suppliers based on site experience.
- Assist estimating and preconstruction teams by providing labor productivity data, trade-specific risks and site conditions feedback.
