Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Lead, plan and supervise daily onsite installation activities for aluminium cladding, ACM panels, rainscreen systems and curtain wall components to ensure works are completed in accordance with contract drawings, manufacturer installation instructions, structural calculations and project specifications.
- Coordinate and sequence the delivery, offloading and secure storage of aluminium panels, extrusions, fixings, sealants, insulation and secondary framing to minimise handling damage and maintain material traceability.
- Read, interpret and verify architectural drawings, shop drawings, structural details and thermal/air/water barrier interfaces, flagging conflicts early and proposing practical, compliant solutions to project management and design teams.
- Manage and supervise multi-disciplinary site crews and subcontractors (installers, scaffolders, crane operators and glazing teams), allocating labour, issuing daily work tasks and ensuring productivity targets and workmanship standards are met.
- Implement and enforce site health, safety and environmental controls for façade works, including PPE, safe systems of work, method statements, permit-to-work procedures, scaffold inspections, edge protection and toolbox talks in line with OSHA / NEBOSH / local regulations.
- Conduct incoming material inspections and first-stage QA checks against delivery paperwork, ensuring manufacturer batch numbers, finish quality, dimensional tolerances and protective coatings meet specification prior to installation.
- Control quality through frequent site inspections: check panel alignment, joint widths, fixings torque, sealant application, flashings, cleat connections and thermal break continuity; document defects and lead snagging and rectification activities.
- Supervise lifting, cranage and mechanical handling of large panels and facade modules; prepare lift plans, slinging arrangements and coordinate with crane operators to ensure safe and damage-free installation.
- Ensure correct installation of secondary aluminium framing, brackets, rails and sub-girts to structural steel or substrate with specified tolerances, shimming, packers and anti-corrosion measures as per engineer drawings.
- Oversee weatherproofing and interface works including vapour control, continuous insulation detailing, through-wall flashings, cavity barriers and compatible sealant systems to achieve watertight and airtight envelope performance.
- Validate thermal movement and expansion joint details during installation, ensuring appropriate clearances, flexible fixings and back-up materials are used to prevent buckling, panel stress and long-term failure.
- Coordinate with waterproofing, roofing, window and structural trades to manage interface details, penetrations and transition zones, preventing clashes and ensuring continuity of the building envelope.
- Manage site quality documentation: maintain installation records, daily reports, snag lists, non-conformance reports (NCRs), manufacturer warranty paperwork and handover documentation for as-built records.
- Schedule and supervise on-site testing and commissioning activities such as mock-ups, leak tests (water infiltration), air permeability tests, wind load checks and third-party inspections; implement corrective actions where required.
- Communicate regularly with the project manager, contract administrator, client representatives and design consultants to report progress, raise RFI’s, request drawing clarifications and obtain approvals for on-site variations.
- Control labour and materials costs on site by monitoring productivity, minimizing waste, reporting delays, and recommending recovery plans to keep the façade programme on schedule and within budget.
- Train, mentor and coach installation teams on manufacturer installation techniques, finishing standards and safe work practices to maintain consistent workmanship and competency across crews.
- Prepare and update short-term lookahead schedules, daily manpower plans and coordination matrices to integrate façade installation with other trades and site milestones.
- Review and approve shop drawings and sample panels in coordination with the design team and fabrication shop, ensuring dimensional compliance and fit-for-installation detailing.
- Lead snagging and final inspection walks, prioritise and allocate remedial works, and confirm completion to achieve successful client handover and secure manufacturer warranties.
- Monitor site environmental conditions (temperature, humidity) and sequencing to ensure sealants, adhesives and finishes cure correctly and manufacturer-installation conditions are met.
- Maintain and enforce tool, plant and equipment inspection regimes (scaffolds, MEWPs, lifting gear) and keep records to support site safety audits and compliance checks.
- Act as the day-to-day client interface on façade matters, attending site meetings, presenting progress reports, capturing approvals and resolving site-facing contractual issues in a timely manner.
- Proactively identify and manage risks associated with façade installation, including access constraints, seasonal impacts, noise and dust controls, and propose mitigations to the project team.
Secondary Functions
- Support project administration by preparing daily site reports, labour logs, delivery registers and photographic records for milestone reporting and claims.
- Assist the procurement team by providing material take-offs, specifying required fixings and recommending approved manufacturer products to ensure buildability and warranty compliance.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by feeding back on installation methods, material performance and site lessons learned to the design and fabrication teams.
- Participate in project HSE reviews, audits and incident investigations; implement corrective and preventive measures and update site procedures accordingly.
- Engage with BIM and design teams to ensure the façade model reflects site conditions, report discrepancies and support the production of accurate as-built models.
- Support training and competency programs for new hires and apprentices, including running on-site inductions and practical training sessions for façade-specific tasks.
