- Assemble hardware components including hinges, locks, handles, closers, thresholds and weather bars; check fit and function and adjust mechanisms to ensure smooth operation.
- Pack, label and prepare finished aluminium frames and assemblies for transport with appropriate protection, ensuring orientation, handling instructions and packaging standards are followed to prevent damage.
- Assist and occasionally perform on-site measuring, fitting, and installation of frames and curtain wall components; communicate site conditions and fabrication adjustments back to the shop for resolution.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot fit or assembly issues quickly, propose pragmatic corrective measures (rework, shims, minor modifications) and communicate impacts to production leads and project managers.
- Adhere to all workplace health and safety, manual handling, hazardous substances (sealants/solvents) and PPE requirements; conduct pre-start checks on tools and machines and report hazards promptly.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives: suggest process improvements, reduce scrap, optimize cut lists, and implement lean manufacturing practices to improve throughput and reduce costs.
- Mentor and train junior fitters, apprentices and new hires in safe work practices, tooling operation, measurement techniques and quality expectations.
- Coordinate with glass suppliers, powder coaters and installers to confirm lead times, tolerances and coating finish specifications; escalate any variance that may impact installation or warranty.
- Ensure environmental and waste handling compliance for aluminium offcuts, sealant waste and chemical solvents in line with company policy and regulatory requirements.
Secondary Functions
- Support production planning by providing accurate lead times, setup durations and recommended batch sizes for aluminum frame fabrication runs.
- Assist engineering or design teams by reporting recurring fit issues and proposing design-for-manufacture modifications to streamline assembly and reduce adjustments.
- Participate in internal audits and supplier quality reviews to improve component quality, reduce defects and ensure adherence to fenestration standards.
- Carry out basic maintenance and calibration of shop tooling and jigs; coordinate scheduled servicing with the maintenance team to minimize downtime.
- Help maintain clean, organized and efficient workstation layout and 5S compliance within the fabrication shop.
- Support ad-hoc fabrication projects, bespoke one-off frames or urgent site remedial work with flexible scheduling and problem-solving focus.
