Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Read, interpret and apply detailed blueprints, CAD drawings, cut lists, and shop orders to set up and fabricate aluminum panels to specified dimensions, tolerances, and finish requirements.
- Measure, mark and cut aluminum sheet, plate, and extrusions using saws, shear, CNC routers and other cutting equipment while minimizing material waste and optimizing nesting.
- Program, set up and operate press brakes, rollers, and folding machines to form bends, hems and contoured shapes in aluminum panels in accordance with engineering specifications and bend allowances.
- Perform precision punching, drilling, notching, slotting and hole alignment operations using drill presses, CNC punching machines and hand tools to prepare panels for assembly and fasteners.
- Conduct MIG and TIG welding, brazing or specialized aluminum joining techniques where required, ensuring proper preheat, filler selection and post-weld treatment to prevent warping and corrosion.
- Assemble multi-component panel systems including frames, stiffeners, insulation, trim, and attachment hardware using rivets, bolts, adhesive bonding and clinching while maintaining structural integrity and seal continuity.
- Operate and maintain CNC routers, saws, deburring machines and finishing equipment; load and unload materials, verify tooling, and perform minor program adjustments for accuracy.
- Perform surface preparation, sanding, grinding and edge finishing; apply protective coatings, primers, sealants or caulk to meet aesthetic and weatherproofing specifications.
- Inspect intermediate and finished parts using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and templates to verify dimensional conformance, flatness, squareness and edge quality prior to release.
- Maintain fabrication documentation including traveler logs, inspection records, production yields and nonconformance reports; promptly report defects to supervisors and quality engineers.
- Fit and install thermal breaks, gaskets, and insulation materials into panel assemblies to meet thermal performance and condensation control requirements.
- Work from prototypes and one-off architectural panels to production runs, interpreting engineering changes, applying rework procedures, and providing feedback for design for manufacturability (DFM).
- Coordinate with powder coat, anodizing and paint shops to ensure proper masking, fixturing and handling of finished panels and to verify final finish acceptance criteria.
- Set up and change tooling, dies and fixtures; maintain tool inventory, sharpen punches, and replace worn tooling to sustain part accuracy and reduce downtime.
- Follow and enforce shop safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, proper handling of aluminum dust and fumes, and PPE use to maintain a safe working environment in compliance with OSHA and internal standards.
- Prepare and package finished panels for shipment, including protective wrappings, palletizing, labeling and preparing shipping documentation to prevent transit damage.
- Troubleshoot fabrication issues on the shop floor, suggest process improvements, and participate in root cause analysis to eliminate recurring defects or bottlenecks.
- Participate in job planning meetings with project managers and engineers to estimate labor, sequence tasks, and identify material/fixture needs for complex panel jobs.
- Train and mentor junior fabricators and apprentices in safe machine operation, blueprint reading, and best practices for aluminum handling and finishing.
- Perform precision field fitting and onsite adjustments as needed for installation projects, working with installers to align panels, fasteners and sealants under real-world conditions.
- Maintain clean, organized workstations and implement 5S principles to improve efficiency and reduce foreign object debris that could damage aluminum finishes.
- Ensure compliance with company quality management systems, ISO or architectural project standards, and follow inspection checklists for critical tolerances and finish acceptance.
- Document and apply protective handling procedures to minimize scratches, denting and corrosion during fabrication, storage and transport of aluminum components.
- Collaborate with purchasing to identify long-lead items, recommend alternate materials or components, and support cost-saving initiatives while preserving part performance and appearance.

- Support production scheduling by providing accurate time estimates, setup durations and potential constraints for complex panel orders.
- Assist engineering and estimating teams with feedback on manufacturability, tooling costs, and realistic lead times during quoting or design stages.

Educational Background
Minimum Education:
