- Perform accurate field measurements (height, width, depth, reveal and corner conditions) and verify dimensions against shop drawings prior to cutting, ordering or setting aluminum frames and glass units.
- Transport, stage and protect glass, aluminum frames, sashes, hardware and installation materials on site and between shop and jobsite while following handling and glazing safety procedures to prevent damage.
- Set up scaffolding, man-lifts, ladders and platform access in accordance with fall protection guidelines; assist with rigging and safe material lift operations to position frames and windows for installation.
- Pre-fit and pre-assemble aluminum frames, sills, jambs and sashes in the shop or on-site, verifying alignment, plumb, level and square before final anchoring to avoid rework and ensure weather-tight installation.
- Install anchors, fasteners, shims, clips and anchors to secure aluminum frames to concrete, masonry or metal studs; torque fasteners to specified values and verify anchorage per manufacturer and structural requirements.
- Apply backer rod, gaskets, compression seals and thermal-break materials correctly to maintain thermal and moisture performance of installed window systems.
- Prepare substrates and opening conditions by cleaning surfaces, removing old sealant or trim, repairing blocking and ensuring proper drainage and flashings prior to setting new units.
- Assist in the cutting, trimming and notching of aluminum extrusions, mullions, and backer systems using power tools (saws, grinders) and hand tools, maintaining clean edge work and accurate tolerances.
- Set glass and insulating glass units into frames, set glazing stops and beads, and install glazing clips and retainers while protecting glass edges and ensuring correct bite depths and sealant contact.
- Apply sealants and caulking beads neatly and continuously for weathertight joints around frames and glass; tool joints to specified profiles and clean excess material from adjacent surfaces.
- Troubleshoot on-site fit issues, recommend minor adjustments to lead installers or foremen, and implement corrective actions such as additional shimming or selective removal and rework under supervision.
- Assist with finishing tasks like installing trim, sills, brackets, hardware (locks, handles, hinges) and weatherstripping, ensuring operational function and alignment of operable units.
- Perform quality assurance checks and dimensional verification of installed units against punch list items and manufacturer tolerances; document deficiencies for follow-up.
- Load and unload trucks, pallets and crates safely using dollies, forklifts or hoists when certified, and assist with inventory verification and labeling of materials delivered to the jobsite.
- Maintain tools, blades and equipment; perform routine maintenance and report broken or unsafe tools so work can continue without delay and meet safety/compliance standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area by removing scrap, packing materials, and glass debris; ensure proper disposal and recycling of materials to reduce trip hazards and site waste.
- Follow all site-specific safety plans, PPE requirements, OSHA regulations and company safety protocols; attend toolbox talks and report hazards or near misses to supervisors immediately.
- Photograph completed work and progress for records, installation sign-offs and as-built documentation; assist foremen with daily logs and material usage tracking.
- Support the lead installer in performing demo and removal of existing windows and frames when required, ensuring minimal impact to surrounding finishes and safe handling of broken glass.
- Assist with while-on-the-job training and mentoring of new helpers in safe handling, basic glazing techniques and company-standard installation procedures.
Secondary Functions
- Assist project managers and foremen with material ordering confirmations, tracking deliveries and verifying received quantities against purchase orders and packing lists.
- Operate shop machinery to assist in pre-fabrication tasks such as cutting and machining aluminum extrusions under supervision; stage prefabricated components for efficient field installation.
- Participate in pre-installation meetings, coordination with other trades (drywall, mechanical, structural) and site walkthroughs to identify potential issues and coordinate access or sequencing.
- Support punch list completion by revisiting installed units, performing minor adjustments and ensuring client satisfaction at project closeout.
- Maintain field records, time sheets and sign-off forms; assist with basic administrative duties such as submitting daily progress photos and material return documentation.
- Attend training programs for manufacturer-specific systems, new sealant products, or safety certifications to expand technical capability and readiness for advanced installer roles.
- Assist with inventory management in the shop, rotating stock and reporting low supplies to reduce job delays and ensure timely procurement.
