Primary Functions

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on ammonia refrigeration equipment including reciprocating, screw and centrifugal compressors, oil separators, condensers, evaporators, receivers, and liquid pumps to maximize uptime and extend equipment life.
  • Troubleshoot and repair ammonia refrigeration systems by diagnosing root causes for abnormal pressures, temperatures, oil carry-over, motor faults, vibration, and refrigerant imbalances using gauges, electronic analyzers, and diagnostic software.

  • Install, commission and start-up ammonia refrigeration systems and components—piping, valves, heat exchangers, controls, and instrumentation—ensuring systems are purged, pressured and evacuated per specification before charging.
  • Perform brazing, welding, pipefitting and mechanical assembly of refrigeration piping and components with hot work permits, nitrogen purge procedures, and welder qualification where required.

  • Implement and maintain compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) directives, IIAR guidelines, OSHA 1910.111, local codes and company safety policies for ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, CMMS work orders, service logs, safety incident reports, and parts inventory data to support reliability and regulatory audits.
  • Conduct and participate in equipment inspections, performance testing, and vibration and temperature trend analysis to identify early signs of failure and recommend reliability improvements.
  • Support commissioning and validation testing for retrofits, upgrades and new equipment installations, including functional tests, interlocks and sequence-of-operation verification.
  • Train operations and maintenance staff on safe handling of ammonia, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, correct use of ammonia monitors and respirators, and emergency response procedures.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs, spare parts procurement, warranty work and major overhauls; evaluate quotes and support budget planning for capital projects.
  • Implement energy conservation and system optimization initiatives such as condenser/tower adjustments, oil-free conversions, VFD and motor efficiency upgrades, and better controls sequencing.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
