Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Greet customers promptly, build rapport, and provide consultative styling advice for apparel, accessories and coordinated outfits to increase conversion and average transaction value.
- Actively engage shoppers on the sales floor using targeted questions to identify needs, recommend product pairings, and close sales while maintaining a high standard of customer service.
- Demonstrate in-depth product knowledge for fabrics, fit, sizing, care instructions, brand collections and seasonal assortments to educate customers and reduce returns.
- Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems accurately for cash, credit, gift card transactions and mobile payments; process returns, exchanges and layaways according to company policies.
- Meet and exceed individual and store sales targets, KPIs and conversion goals by executing personal sales plans, suggestive selling, upselling and cross-sell techniques.
- Maintain organized and accurate inventory on the sales floor and in the stockroom: receive shipments, unpack, tag, price, and replenish floor merchandise to ensure full presentation.
- Implement visual merchandising standards and seasonal floor moves—dress mannequins, set feature tables, maintain signage and ensure product displays are visually compelling and sales-driven.
- Support and execute promotions, product launches and in-store events, including live shopping events, private fittings, and loyalty program sign-ups to drive traffic and retention.
- Assist customers in changing rooms, manage fitting room flow, inspect returned items for damage or misuse, and process appropriate restocking or markdowns.
- Conduct daily opening and closing procedures—secure cash handling, reconcile POS totals, perform register drops and ensure store appearance aligns with brand standards.
- Use CRM or loyalty systems to collect customer information, track preferences and follow up post-transaction to nurture repeat business and increase lifetime value.
- Enforce loss prevention and shrink-control practices by monitoring risk areas, following company protocols and reporting suspicious activity to management.
- Prepare merchandise for markdowns, transfers, and promotions; execute price changes and clearance strategies coordinated with store leadership.
- Participate in product replenishment and inventory counts (cycle counts and physical inventories) to maintain stock accuracy and support supply chain efficiency.
- Support online order fulfillment and omnichannel services (buy online pick up in store, ship-from-store, curbside pickup) by picking, staging and handing off orders promptly and accurately.
- Train and mentor new sales staff on brand standards, POS procedures, visual merchandising, customer service techniques and safety policies to build a high-performing team.
- Resolve customer complaints and escalations with empathy and a solutions-based approach; escalate complex issues to management when necessary while protecting brand reputation.
- Monitor and analyze basic sales performance data (daily sales, units per transaction, conversion) to inform merchandising and selling strategies on the floor.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organized sales environment—ensure dressing rooms, displays, and common areas are tidy and adhere to health and safety standards.
- Coordinate with store leadership on stock replenishment needs, size assortment gaps and customer feedback to influence buying decisions and improve assortment effectiveness.
- Execute price labeling, product tagging, and barcode scanning procedures with attention to detail to avoid pricing errors and streamline checkout experiences.
- Support corporate audits, compliance checks and mystery shopper visits by maintaining consistent service levels and store presentation.
