- Diagnose electrical issues using schematic diagrams and wiring diagrams, trace faults, measure voltages and currents, and repair or replace wiring harnesses, switches, relays, fuses and circuit boards while observing lockout/tagout and electrical safety procedures.
- Perform refrigeration diagnostics including measuring refrigerant pressures, identifying leaks, recovering and recharging refrigerant (EPA 608-certified procedures), evacuating systems with vacuum pumps, and verifying compressor performance and system superheat/subcooling.
- Use manufacturer-specific diagnostic tools and software, remote diagnostics and onboard diagnostics to read fault codes, reprogram control modules and upload service data as required to complete efficient repairs.
- Manage parts inventory in the field, order and receive replacement parts, track warranty parts usage, and minimize downtime by carrying commonly used SKUs and leveraging vendor networks and parts centers.
- Accurately document all service activities, labor, parts used, mileage, and customer interactions in the company’s CRM or field service management system, ensuring warranties and billing codes are correctly applied.
- Provide outstanding customer service by explaining findings, presenting repair options with clear pricing and warranty implications, obtaining authorization, and educating customers on safe operation and appliance care.
- Respond to emergency service requests and prioritize daily dispatch calls using mobile workforce management tools, optimizing route efficiency while meeting promised appointment windows and SLA requirements.
- Comply with all health, safety and environmental regulations, including gas and electrical codes, refrigerant handling laws (EPA 608), confined space procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Collaborate with technical support, warranty teams, and engineering when complex or recurring failures occur, supplying detailed failure reports, photos and diagnostics to drive product improvements and warranty decisions.
- Perform in-field software updates and firmware upgrades on smart appliances, configure network connections (Wi‑Fi) for remote diagnostics, and assist customers with onboarding and app connectivity.
- Train and mentor junior technicians and apprentices on diagnostic techniques, safe work practices, parts identification and efficient repair strategies to improve team competency and first-time-fix rates.
- Handle warranty verification and claims processing, documenting pre-existing conditions, serial numbers, and repair details required to validate warranty coverage and obtain parts credits when applicable.
- Maintain company vehicles and equipment, including regular tool inspections, replenishing inventory of consumables (filters, belts, adhesives), and ensuring vans meet safety and cleanliness standards.
- Follow company pricing policies and upsell appropriate preventive-maintenance or extended-warranty products while maintaining transparency and trust with the customer.
- Participate in continuous training on new product launches, technical bulletins and service advisories to stay current with manufacturer changes and diagnostic protocols.
- Conduct pre-service assessments for commercial accounts and property managers, provide scope-of-work recommendations, and coordinate multi-appliance service tasks to minimize customer disruption.
- Escalate safety hazards, recurring defects or potential product recalls to management promptly and assist with coordinating recalls or fleet-wide remedial actions.
Secondary Functions
- Assist dispatch and parts teams with urgent part procurement and expedited shipping requests for high-priority service jobs.
- Contribute technician input to service pricing guidelines and common-parts kits based on field experience.
- Provide customer feedback and field intelligence to product teams to inform product reliability improvements and spare-parts stocking decisions.
