Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day application support, resolving 2nd- and 3rd-line incidents and service requests, diagnosing root causes, applying fixes, and documenting resolution steps to reduce repeat incidents and meet SLA targets.
  • Lead application implementations and rollouts: gather requirements, configure application modules, create implementation plans, oversee testing cycles, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and deliver go-live support for new sites or feature releases.
  • Configure application workflows, user roles and permissions, system parameters, and business rules to align application behavior with operational and regulatory requirements while minimizing need for custom code.
  • Design and execute data migration strategies: extract, transform, and load (ETL) legacy data into target systems; develop mapping specifications; validate migrated data with business owners; and reconcile discrepancies prior to production cutover.
  • Manage integrations between internal and external systems using APIs, middleware platforms (e.g., Mulesoft, Dell Boomi, Informatica), HL7/FHIR for healthcare, or web services, ensuring reliable data flow and robust error handling.
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute User Acceptance Testing (UAT) plans with business stakeholders; create test cases, capture defects, track remediation, and certify releases for production deployment.
  • Build and maintain configuration documentation, runbooks, SOPs, and knowledge base articles to support consistent system administration and to accelerate onboarding of new support staff and end users.
  • Monitor application health and performance using APM and monitoring tools; identify performance bottlenecks, recommend tuning or scaling strategies, and coordinate fixes with infrastructure and vendor teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing user feedback, support ticket trends, and application usage metrics; propose enhancements that increase adoption, reduce manual work, and improve business KPIs.
  • Deliver targeted training sessions and create end-user training materials (job aids, video walkthroughs, FAQs) to increase user proficiency and reduce support demand.
  • Manage vendor relationships and escalation paths for third-party applications or cloud services; coordinate patching, upgrades, and product roadmap discussions with vendors.
  • Plan and execute application upgrades and patching cycles: analyze release notes, assess impact on customizations and integrations, perform pre-production testing, and document rollback plans.
  • Configure and maintain security settings including access control, SSO/SAML integration, MFA, encryption settings, and auditing capabilities to maintain compliance with organizational policies and industry regulations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
  • Support reporting and analytics needs by creating and optimizing reports and dashboards using SQL, SSRS, Crystal Reports, Power BI, or Tableau; work with business users to translate requirements into actionable metrics.
  • Triage and remediate data quality issues and duplicate records; implement validation rules and automated alerts to prevent recurrence and preserve data integrity.
  • Participate in incident management and problem management processes, including RCA workshops, CAPA creation, and cross-team remediation to prevent high-severity incidents from reoccurring.
  • Contribute to project management activities: scope definition, resource planning, risk assessment, status reporting, and stakeholder communication to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Customize application screens, templates, forms, and scripts where supported by vendor configuration to meet specific operational workflows without compromising upgradability.
  • Maintain production support schedules, on-call rotations, and after-hours go-live coverage to provide timely response for critical incidents and scheduled releases.
  • Ensure adherence to change control and governance processes by documenting change requests, participating in CAB reviews, and validating post-change outcomes to minimize disruption.
  • Participate in internal audits and compliance activities, provide evidence of controls, and implement remediation plans for application-level findings.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to address vulnerabilities, review user access audits, and implement hardening guidance for application servers and databases.
  • Evaluate and pilot new application modules, third-party add-ons, and automation opportunities (RPA, scripting) that align with the organization’s technology roadmap.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis.
  • Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements.
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies within the data engineering team.
  • Provide mentorship to junior support staff and share best practices across teams.
  • Assist procurement and contract review for application-related agreements.
  • Support disaster recovery planning and periodically validate recovery procedures for application components.
