Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Act as the primary application owner for assigned business systems, managing configuration, release updates, and end-to-end lifecycle activities to ensure stability, performance, and alignment with business objectives.
  • Gather, document, and validate detailed functional and non-functional requirements from cross-functional stakeholders, transforming business needs into technical specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, and process flows.
  • Lead or participate in application implementation projects including requirements analysis, solution design, configuration, data mapping, migration planning, and cutover activities to deliver on-time and within scope.
  • Design, build, and maintain integrations between internal systems, cloud services, and third-party applications using RESTful APIs, SOAP, middleware (e.g., MuleSoft, Dell Boomi), or ETL tools; create and maintain integration documentation and data flow diagrams.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production incidents through root cause analysis, corrective actions, and permanent fixes; coordinate with development, infrastructure, and vendor teams to minimize business impact.
  • Perform SQL queries, stored procedure reviews, and database troubleshooting for performance tuning, data reconciliation, and reporting accuracy across relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
  • Manage application change requests, enhancements, and configuration updates using formal change control processes (ITIL-based), assessing risk, ROI, and rollback strategies.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute system upgrades and patch deployments; create runbooks, test plans, and rollback procedures; validate successful deployments in production.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive application documentation including process flows, configuration guides, integration maps, data dictionaries, runbooks, and operational support procedures to support knowledge transfer and audits.
  • Design and execute end-to-end testing strategies: unit tests, system integration testing (SIT), user acceptance testing (UAT), regression testing, and performance validation to ensure quality and fit-for-purpose releases.
  • Provide second- and third-line support for escalated incidents and service requests, manage ticket triage, SLA adherence, and provide timely status updates to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with security, compliance, and audit teams to ensure applications meet regulatory and internal control requirements, including access control reviews, encryption, logging, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Monitor application health and key performance indicators using APM and monitoring tools; proactively identify trends and implement preventative measures to improve reliability and availability.
  • Work with vendors and managed service providers for licensing, support contracts, escalations, and technical collaboration; manage vendor deliverables and act as the technical liaison.
  • Develop and deliver training materials, conduct user training sessions, and create self-service documentation to improve user adoption and reduce recurring support requests.
  • Optimize business processes by proposing automation, configuration changes, or integration improvements that reduce manual work and increase throughput and accuracy.
  • Validate and reconcile data during migrations or integrations, resolving mapping issues, data quality problems, and ensuring referential integrity across systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement by analyzing support metrics, incident trends, and user feedback to propose enhancements, efficiency gains, and modernization opportunities.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog grooming, demos) and collaborate with product owners, scrum masters, QA, and engineering teams to deliver iterative value.
  • Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning for critical applications, participating in failover testing and operational readiness exercises.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis.
  • Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements.
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies within the data engineering team.
  • Assist in vendor evaluations and proof-of-concept testing for new application tools or integration platforms.
  • Champion knowledge sharing and documentation standards across the application team.
