Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design and implement detailed, standards-aligned Arabic language lesson plans that address the four core skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) and incorporate explicit grammar and vocabulary instruction for learners at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.
  • Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction using communicative language teaching methodologies, task-based learning and immersive activities that prompt real-world language use and fluency development.
  • Differentiate instruction and materials to meet the needs of mixed-ability classrooms, including heritage speakers, novice learners, students with IEPs/504 plans, and English language learners.
  • Create and administer formative and summative assessments (quizzes, oral proficiency interviews, diagnostic tests, rubrics, projects) to measure language proficiency gains, guide instruction, and report student progress.
  • Develop and maintain clear, measurable learning objectives tied to CEFR, ACTFL, IB, AP, or local/state language standards and use those objectives to drive daily planning and assessment.

  • Provide targeted instruction in Arabic script: handwriting, reading fluency, orthography and phonology, including explicit support for Arabic diglossia and dialect awareness.
  • Prepare students for external examinations and certifications (AP Arabic, IB Language B/Ab initio, DELF-equivalent assessments, school exit exams) by developing test-specific practice and strategy sessions.
  • Create project-based learning experiences (presentations, debates, storytelling, role-plays, community interviews) that assess higher-order language skills and intercultural competence.
  • Use technology and blended learning tools (Google Classroom, Zoom, LMS, language-learning apps, interactive whiteboards) to enhance instruction, provide asynchronous practice, and support remote or hybrid learning environments.

  • Analyze assessment data to inform instructional changes, identify intervention needs, and collaborate with support specialists to implement evidence-based language interventions.
  • Design and maintain a culturally inclusive classroom library and resource bank of authentic Arabic texts, multimedia, primary-source materials and leveled readers for sustained, differentiated reading programs.
  • Prepare and submit required administrative documentation (lesson plans, IEP documentation, standardized assessment records, attendance and safety compliance) in a timely manner.
  • Provide individualized and small-group intervention during office hours, study halls or targeted pull-out sessions to support learners below grade-level targets or preparing for proficiency assessments.
  • Ensure alignment of classroom instruction with school-wide safeguarding, attendance and assessment policies and participate in emergency drills, duty assignments and school events.

Secondary Functions

  • Contribute to the ongoing development and revision of Arabic curriculum maps, unit planners and scope-and-sequence documents that support vertical articulation across grades.
  • Support school-wide language initiatives such as dual-language programs, heritage language pathways, and translation services for school communications.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding and professional development of Arabic teaching assistants and interns; provide mentorship and model lessons when required.
  • Collaborate with community organizations, cultural centers and language institutes to expand student exposure to native speakers and authentic cultural experiences.
  • Coordinate and proctor external language examinations and proficiency assessments according to testing protocols and accreditation requirements.

Required Skills & Competencies

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Arabic Language, Education, Linguistics, Middle Eastern Studies, TESOL, or a closely related field.
  • OR equivalent combination of native/near-native language proficiency and formal training in language teaching.

Preferred Education:

  • Master’s degree in Arabic Language Pedagogy, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or Education with a concentration in world languages.
  • Teaching certification or licensure (state, national or international credential such as QTS, state teaching license, or PGCE) and/or specialized certification in second language acquisition.
