Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Deliver consultative sales by guiding customers through compound and recurve bow selection, matching draw length, draw weight, and shooting style to deliver personalized equipment recommendations that increase customer satisfaction and average transaction value.
  • Conduct professional bow fitting sessions including draw length measurement, brace height checks, nocking point adjustment, and ergonomics assessment to ensure accurate setups and reduce returns and tune-back visits.
  • Perform routine and advanced bow tuning and maintenance such as cam timing, axle alignment, cable/limb maintenance, and sight and rest adjustments to return safe, high-performing equipment to customers.
  • Execute stringing, re-stringing and safe unstringing procedures for compound, recurve and traditional bows, following manufacturer specifications and safety protocols.
  • Cut, measure, and spine-match arrows; install and adjust nocks, fletching and inserts; perform arrow straightening and quality inspections to provide reliable, ready-to-shoot arrows for customers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair common pro shop service calls, including rest replacement, sight calibration, stabilizer installation, and minor limb or hardware repairs, documenting services and parts used.
  • Process sales transactions accurately using POS systems, handle special orders for hard-to-find components, coordinate vendor warranty claims, and manage order follow-ups to completion.
  • Maintain and merchandise archery floor displays with current product assortments (bows, arrows, broadheads, releases, sights, stabilizers), seasonal inventory, and promotional signage to optimize visual appeal and drive impulse purchasing.
  • Hit and track daily and monthly sales targets by proactively upselling accessories, service plans and tuning packages while delivering exceptional customer experiences that drive loyalty and repeat business.
  • Lead product demonstrations and in-store test range sessions for compound, recurve and youth bows, coaching customers on shot sequence and safe handling during tryouts to convert interest into sales.
  • Supervise shooting range activities during shifts, enforce range safety rules, provide beginner safety briefings, and quickly intervene on unsafe behavior to reduce liability and ensure a family-friendly environment.
  • Train and mentor junior associates in product knowledge, bow setup, basic tuning, and customer service techniques to expand team capabilities and provide consistent service standards.
  • Coordinate inventory replenishment by conducting cycle counts, reporting shrink or damaged goods, initiating purchase requests, and working with vendors to manage lead times for high-demand archery items.
  • Manage pro shop scheduling for appointments, tuning slots and lesson bookings, optimizing capacity and ensuring efficient customer flow for both walk-ins and pre-scheduled services.
  • Build and maintain relationships with archery manufacturers and distributors to source demo bows, replacement parts, technical bulletins and promotional materials that help deliver informed recommendations and timely repairs.
  • Prepare daily and weekly sales and service reports that highlight revenue, parts usage, and service turnaround times to help managers make inventory and staffing decisions.
  • Plan and participate in community outreach, demo days, product launch events, and local tournaments to promote the shop, drive foot traffic and build a network of repeat customers and club members.
  • Handle warranty processing, returns and exchanges professionally and in accordance with store policy and manufacturer guidelines, documenting actions and communicating clearly with customers.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized pro shop and range area, performing regular tool and equipment checks, organizing workbenches, safekeeping customer bows and tracking repair status.
  • Advise customers on safety equipment and legal considerations for field and hunting setups, including protective gear, maintenance kits, and broadhead storage best practices.
  • Provide accurate product education for broadheads, fletchings, release aids, quivers, sighting systems and stabilizers so customers can make informed purchasing decisions and minimize post-sale dissatisfaction.
  • Use CRM and POS data to follow up on leads, re-engage past customers with service reminders, tuning schedules and targeted promotions to maximize lifetime customer value.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with website product content updates, including accurate product descriptions, photography coordination and keyword-rich copy to support online sales and SEO.
  • Support local marketing initiatives by creating social media posts, filming short product demo clips, and contributing content for email campaigns that highlight services and promotions.
  • Participate in cross-functional store meetings to align pro shop inventory with marketing campaigns, promotional calendars and seasonal buying trends.
  • Coordinate with facility maintenance on range repairs, target backstop upkeep and safety signage placement to sustain a compliant shooting environment.
  • Contribute to training materials and standard operating procedures for bow tuning, range safety and point-of-sale processes to ensure consistent onboarding of new hires.
  • Respond to ad-hoc management requests such as compiling supplier performance feedback, evaluating demo inventory ROI, and assisting with month-end stock reconciliation.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Expert product knowledge of compound bows, recurve bows, longbows, arrows, sights, releases and broadheads, including manufacturers' specifications and performance differences.
  • Bow fitting and tuning skills: draw length measurement, draw weight adjustment, cam timing, nocking point set-up, and rest and sight alignment.
  • Proficiency in safe stringing and unstringing techniques for compound and traditional bows using appropriate tools (stringers, press, etc.).
  • Arrow preparation expertise: cutting to length, spine-matching, fletching, installing inserts and nocks, and arrow straightening/inspection.
  • Hands-on repair capability for common pro shop jobs: rest replacement, limb bolt torque, sight installations, stabilizer mounting, and simple limb or hardware repairs.
  • POS and retail transaction skills, including barcode scanning, returns processing, gift cards, layaways, and accurate cash handling.
  • Inventory management and cycle counting experience, familiarity with replenishment processes and vendor ordering systems.
  • Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) tools or spreadsheets to track service history, warranty claims and follow-ups.
  • Range safety knowledge and certification (preferred) in range operations, safety briefings, and emergency response for shooting facilities.
  • Basic e-commerce support skills: updating product listings, managing online orders and coordinating ship-from-store or in-store pickup.
  • Familiarity with archery-specific tools and equipment (bow press, string jig, arrow saw, fletching jig, calipers, bow scale).

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; basic certifications in customer service or retail operations are acceptable.

Preferred Education:

  • Associate degree or certificate in Sports Management, Recreation, Business, Mechanical Technology, or related field.
  • Certifications such as USA Archery Level 1, NASP instructor, or manufacturer-specific pro shop training are a plus.
