  • Perform site analysis, field measurements, existing conditions documentation and site visits during construction administration to verify compliance with drawings and resolve issues with contractors.
  • Administer construction contracts and provide construction administration services including RFI review, submittal review, site observation reports, change order evaluation, and punch-list coordination to ensure design intent is achieved.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, monitor deliverable milestones, and communicate schedule impacts to project teams and clients proactively to mitigate risks and ensure on-time delivery.
  • Lead material research and testing protocols, coordinate mock-ups, and advise on sustainable product selection, lifecycle impacts and maintenance requirements that support client goals and project targets.
  • Mentor and review work of junior designers and technical staff, providing guidance on documentation standards, BIM practices, detailing and professional development.
  • Implement and enforce office standards for CAD/BIM templates, drawing organization, layering conventions, and file-naming protocols to ensure consistent, high-quality deliverables across projects.
  • Conduct constructability reviews and coordinate with contractors during pre-construction to identify potential issues, reduce change orders and optimize building systems for efficient installation.
  • Prepare cost-informing diagrams, quantity take-offs and assist with budget reconciliation in collaboration with cost consultants to align design decisions to financial constraints.
  • Integrate sustainability strategies and certification requirements (LEED, WELL, Passive House considerations) into design solutions, documenting energy strategies, envelope performance and daylighting analyses as required.
  • Lead or participate in public engagement, community outreach or design review board presentations to secure approvals, respond to stakeholder comments, and advocate for design decisions.
  • Establish and archive project documentation, as-built drawings and closeout manuals with maintenance recommendations to facilitate long-term facility management and future renovation efforts.
  • Drive research and development initiatives for new materials, façade technologies, modular construction methods and digital fabrication techniques that can be applied to ongoing projects to improve efficiency and innovation.
  • Ensure risk management through thorough documentation of design decisions, assumptions, and potential liabilities, and coordinate with legal or contracts teams when necessary.

Secondary Functions

  • Support business development activities by preparing proposal narratives, scope of work descriptions, project resumes and conceptual illustrations that communicate firm capabilities and win new work.
  • Maintain and expand professional networks and client relationships through industry events, conferences and targeted outreach to generate repeat work and referrals.
  • Contribute to office knowledge management by documenting lessons learned, creating standard details libraries and sharing best practices for technical resolution and design delivery.
  • Assist with resource planning and workload balancing by advising project managers on staffing needs, skill gaps and training requirements for upcoming phases.
  • Monitor and evaluate emerging codes, regulations and local jurisdiction policy changes and disseminate relevant updates to project teams to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Participate in sustainability and compliance reporting, including energy modeling coordination and the preparation of documentation required for green building certifications.
  • Support marketing and thought leadership by producing authored pieces, case study content, or social media collateral that highlight completed projects and design approaches.
  • Provide backup support for procurement of specialized consultants, fabrication partners and vendor coordination for custom components and mock-ups.
