- Drive continuous improvement programs (Kaizen, 5S, SMED, Value Stream Mapping) to reduce waste, shorten changeover times, and increase throughput and equipment availability.
- Collaborate with maintenance and reliability teams to prioritize preventive maintenance, plan major repairs and manage equipment uptime, coordinating planned downtime for changeovers and capital projects.
- Ensure product quality and compliance by partnering with Quality Assurance to implement control plans, corrective actions, nonconformance handling and customer complaint resolution.
- Oversee new product introductions and process changes in your area by leading pilot runs, capturing lessons learned and ensuring operators are trained on new processes and documentation.
- Control production costs by monitoring area budgets, initiating cost reduction initiatives, managing material and resource utilization and reporting variances to senior management.
- Coordinate with supply chain and materials planning to ensure availability of raw materials, components and packaging; manage backorders and expedite actions to minimize line stoppages.
- Maintain and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions and visual controls to ensure consistent execution and support training and audits.
- Facilitate daily/weekly production meetings and Gemba walks to review performance, remove blockers, escalate issues and align multi-shift teams on priorities and action plans.
- Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams for chronic production issues, leveraging statistical analysis and process capability tools to implement robust, permanent fixes.
- Manage contractor and third-party vendor work in the area, ensuring work meets safety, quality and schedule requirements and coordinating access and site onboarding.
- Support audits (internal and external), regulatory inspections and customer site visits by preparing documentation, driving corrective actions and representing the production organization.
- Implement and monitor environmental, health and safety initiatives including lockout/tagout, PPE compliance, machine guarding and ergonomics improvements.
- Drive digital manufacturing and reporting adoption—including MES/SCADA data, shop floor dashboards and automated KPI reporting—to provide real-time visibility into performance and support continuous improvement.
- Ensure accurate production reporting and documentation, including shift logs, yield summaries, downtime reports and material usage, to support management reviews and financial forecasting.
- Coach and develop a high-performance culture focused on accountability, problem solving, cross-training and continuous learning to increase bench strength and reduce single-person dependencies.
- Prepare and present regular performance reviews to senior leadership, highlighting trends, improvement initiatives, risk areas and CAPEX needs for area optimization.
- Plan and execute capital projects and process improvement investments in collaboration with engineering and project teams, ensuring scope, schedule and budget alignment.
- Manage product change controls and SOP revisions with strong version control to ensure traceability and compliance for quality systems and audits.
Secondary Functions
- Support cross-area initiatives such as sustainability programs, waste reduction efforts and energy efficiency projects that benefit plant-level KPIs.
- Mentor high-potential employees and participate in talent reviews and succession planning to strengthen the leadership pipeline.
- Participate in corporate steering committees for continuous improvement, safety, quality and digital transformation projects.
- Support ad-hoc data requests and production analytics to enable forecasting, scenario planning and decision-making at the area level.
- Contribute to the development of training curricula, operator certification programs and skills matrix maintenance to ensure competency coverage across shifts.
- Collaborate with procurement on supplier nonconformances and root cause actions that affect production quality or on-time delivery.
- Assist with seasonal demand planning and capacity modeling to prepare the area for peak production periods and promotional windows.
- Act as backup in coordinating incident response and crisis management on behalf of the plant leadership when needed.
