Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead and manage daily operations for a portfolio of stores in the assigned area, ensuring consistent adherence to company policies, brand standards, and store operating procedures to maximize sales and customer satisfaction.
  • Drive area sales performance to meet and exceed targets by coaching store managers on execution of sales plans, promotional activities, and merchandising strategies; monitor weekly and monthly KPI trends and implement corrective actions.
  • Own P&L performance for the territory by monitoring revenue drivers, controlling expenses (labor, supplies, shrink), and working with store teams to improve gross margin and profitability.
  • Recruit, onboard, and develop store managers and assistant managers; design and execute targeted coaching plans, succession planning, and regular performance reviews to build leadership bench strength.
  • Create and manage labor schedules across stores to balance service level, sales opportunity, and labor cost targets; forecast peak periods and adjust staffing to optimize productivity and guest experience.
  • Oversee inventory management and replenishment processes across locations to maintain high stock accuracy, reduce stockouts, and minimize excess inventory through cycle counts, transfers, and root-cause analysis.
  • Lead loss-prevention and shrink reduction initiatives (merchandising audits, cash handling controls, CCTV reviews) to reduce inventory loss and increase profitability across the area.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and regulatory requirements (OSHA, local health codes, alcohol/tobacco regulations where applicable), conducting regular safety audits and addressing hazards immediately.
  • Execute visual merchandising standards, planogram compliance, and store resets; partner with merchandising teams to prioritize unique local opportunities that drive conversion.
  • Manage vendor relationships and local supplier interactions for store replenishment, services, and ad-hoc operational needs; negotiate service schedules and oversee quality of outsourced support.
  • Act as the escalation point for customer complaints and complex service recovery; ensure timely follow-up, root cause identification, and improvements to prevent recurrence.
  • Prepare and deliver weekly area performance reports and presentations to senior leadership, highlighting sales trends, operational risks, staffing needs, and action plans.
  • Lead store openings, relocations, and temporary store project execution including staffing, training, merchandising, and regulatory compliance to meet launch timelines.
  • Implement merchandising and promotional initiatives from corporate programs, track execution at the store level, and measure lift versus plan, recommending adjustments to maximize ROI.
  • Conduct regular field visits and operational audits to inspect store performance, coach managers in real-time, and ensure consistent guest experience and operational excellence across all locations.
  • Develop and execute action plans to improve underperforming stores, including tailored coaching, focused merchandising changes, local marketing support, and operational tweaks to drive traffic and conversion.
  • Collaborate with HR on local labor issues, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, and terminations in accordance with company policy and local labor laws.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process inefficiencies in scheduling, stock flow, or reporting and partnering with cross-functional teams (IT, Supply Chain, Finance) to implement system or process changes.
  • Manage budget inputs for the area including labor forecasts, ad spend, and store operating expenses; monitor variances and take corrective measures to stay within agreed targets.
  • Support and enforce corporate initiatives such as loyalty programs, omnichannel fulfillment (BOPIS/BOSS), and service standards; ensure store teams are trained, equipped, and measured on execution.
  • Lead emergency response coordination for store-level incidents (accidents, power outages, severe weather) and ensure business continuity plans are in place and practiced.
  • Maintain accurate payroll, time and attendance, and expense reporting for the area and validate manager-submitted data to prevent errors and unauthorized payments.
  • Mentor and promote a culture of accountability, inclusion, and high performance; model company values and reinforce desired behaviors during coaching and staff meetings.
  • Analyze customer and market feedback, local competition, and demographic trends to recommend localized marketing and assortment decisions that can increase market share.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience considered.
