Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Oversee day-to-day grocery department operations, ensuring store readiness, product availability, attractive merchandising, accurate pricing, and compliance with company standards to drive sales and profitability.
  • Lead, coach and develop a team of associates and department leads: assign daily tasks, conduct training, set performance expectations, and provide ongoing feedback to improve productivity and customer service.

  • Execute merchandising and planogram directives: implement promotional endcaps, seasonal displays, shelf tags, price changes, and signage to maximize category conversion and promotional compliance.
  • Maintain strict product rotation (FIFO), freshness standards, date-code compliance, and quality control for perishables (produce, meat, deli, dairy, bakery) to minimize shrink and food safety risk.
  • Conduct daily and periodic inventory counts, cycle counts and audits; analyze shrink drivers and implement corrective actions to improve inventory accuracy and margin.
  • Ensure cash-handling accuracy and front-end support as needed: supervise registers, resolve POS issues, and perform register audits and cash drops to maintain financial controls.
  • Enforce store loss prevention protocols, investigate shortages or irregularities, coordinate with loss prevention or corporate teams, and implement corrective processes to reduce theft and shrink.
  • Monitor and analyze daily sales, margin, labor and inventory KPIs; prepare and present operational reports to store leadership and use insights to adjust tactics and staffing.
  • Lead receiving and vendor relationships for grocery suppliers: schedule deliveries, verify invoices, manage cold-chain compliance, and escalate discrepancies to purchasing or corporate as needed.
  • Oversee safety, sanitation and compliance: inspect storage and preparation areas, ensure HACCP/ServSafe or local health regulations are met, conduct safety training and correct hazards promptly.
  • Support promotional planning and execution: coordinate in-store promotions, price markdowns, cross-merchandising, and loyalty offers to meet campaign goals and customer expectations.
  • Plan and coordinate merchandising resets and seasonal changeovers—assign tasks, supervise setup, and validate compliance with corporate merchandising schedules and standards.
  • Investigate and resolve customer escalations and refunds professionally; analyze feedback trends and implement service improvements to increase NPS and loyalty.
  • Implement company policies and procedures consistently: hiring, onboarding, scheduling, discipline, and performance documentation in coordination with store management and HR.
  • Partner with store leadership on budgeting and P&L goals: monitor departmental expenses, control cost of goods sold (COGS), and recommend margin-improvement initiatives.
  • Train staff on product knowledge, allergens, labeling, and upsell techniques to increase basket size and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Supervise equipment maintenance and cold-chain integrity: coordinate refrigeration repairs, monitor temperature logs, and ensure proper storage practices to protect product quality.
  • Coordinate transfers between stores, returns to vendors, and disposals—maintain documentation to support inventory accuracy and vendor claims.
  • Drive loss-mitigation and compliance initiatives, including CCTV review, internal audits, and implementation of corrective operating procedures to strengthen asset protection.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing and onboarding new hires; create development plans, conduct performance reviews, and support career growth to retain high-performing associates.
  • Support broader store initiatives such as sustainability programs (waste reduction, composting), community outreach, and vendor-managed inventory pilots when applicable.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
