- Operate and maintain digital audio workstations and session management: manage Pro Tools/Logic/Ableton sessions, consolidate tracks, perform track backups, manage version control, and ensure clean file-naming and folder structures for cross-team collaboration.
- Edit and clean dialogue and vocal tracks: perform noise reduction, click/pops removal, timing alignment, comping, pitch correction when needed, and prepare dialogue for ADR sessions or final delivery.
- Design and implement signal flow and routing for multi-room studios and live rigs: configure patch bays, audio snakes, Dante/AVB networked audio, stage boxes and digital console routing to support simultaneous tracking and live events.
- Provide FOH and monitor engineering for live concerts and events: perform sound checks, design monitor mixes for performers, manage time-of-day and venue acoustics, and coordinate with stage management and production teams to ensure show-level audio quality.
- Conduct technical troubleshooting and repair: diagnose and resolve connectivity issues, latency, clocking and grounding problems, maintain outboard gear and converters, and liaise with vendors or manufacturers for warranty repairs.
- Produce sound design and effects for film, TV, advertising and games: create Foley, synth textures, field-recorded atmospheres, and bespoke SFX, and integrate them into editorial timelines using editorial and mixing tools.
- Implement and enforce broadcast and platform loudness and format standards: prepare content to meet EBU R128, ATSC A/85, CALM Act, and streaming platform LUFS specifications, and deliver compliant stems and metadata.
- Oversee remote recording and streaming sessions: set up and manage ISDN, Source-Connect, remote collaboration platforms, and high-quality file transfer workflows to accept or send sessions worldwide.
- Collaborate with producers, directors and music supervisors to align audio objectives with creative and business goals: advise on arrangement, reference mixes, and final approvals while maintaining deadlines and budgets.
- Maintain studio inventory and calibration: schedule and perform acoustic measurements, speaker calibration, and maintenance of analog consoles, microphones, preamps, converters and DAW systems to preserve sonic consistency.
- Create and maintain session templates, plugin chains and presets to standardize workflows and increase team efficiency across projects and engineers.
- Prepare and deliver multichannel and immersive mixes (5.1, 7.1, Dolby Atmos): route stems, check compatibility, perform spatial placements and ensure downmix compatibility for distribution.
- Manage project timelines, budgets and client expectations: prepare estimates, scope work, track billable hours, and deliver assets on time while documenting change requests and approvals.
- Train and mentor junior engineers and interns: provide hands-on instruction in mic techniques, DAW workflows, mixing concepts and professional studio etiquette to build a resilient team.
- Maintain secure and organized media archives: implement redundant backup strategies, LTO/tape or cloud archival practices, catalog session metadata and ensure accessibility for future recalls.
- Integrate interactive audio for games and apps: author adaptive audio assets, implement middleware decisions (Wwise, FMOD) and work with audio programmers on interactive form factors and memory/CPU constraints.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and noise regulations on set and in studio: manage safe monitor levels, advise on hearing protection, and document risk assessments for extended sessions.
- Coordinate remote and on-site talent sessions, scheduling and logistics: plan engineer/talent availability, travel arrangements for location recording, and secure necessary clearances and releases.
- Continuously evaluate and test new audio technology, plugins and workflows: pilot software/hardware upgrades, gauge ROI, and create recommendations for studio improvements to maintain competitive capability.
- Provide post-delivery support for technical QC and revisions: address client feedback, produce alternate mixes or stems, and update master files with corrected metadata or technical fixes.
Secondary Functions
- Maintain and update technical documentation, patch sheets and user guides for consoles, networks and studio systems.
- Provide pre-sale technical consults to producers and clients, estimating requirements and advising on recording/mixing approaches.
- Participate in studio marketing and business development by creating reference mixes, demo reels and technical spec sheets for prospective clients.
- Assist in developing and enforcing studio policies for file management, backup schedules and equipment booking.
- Support cross-department collaboration with video editors, VFX and music departments to synchronize audio workflows and delivery timelines.
