Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Plan, prepare and execute detailed audit work programs for assigned accounts and processes, ensuring that audit objectives, scope and timelines are met for external and internal financial statement audits.
- Perform risk assessments and walk-throughs of client processes to identify key controls and areas of higher fraud or misstatement risk, documenting process flows and control matrices.
- Design and execute test procedures for internal controls (including SOX 404 testing), including control design testing, operating effectiveness testing, and remediation follow-up.
- Conduct substantive testing of account balances and transactions (e.g., cash, receivables, revenue, inventory, payables, payroll), employing statistical and judgmental sampling techniques and documenting the rationale for sampling selections.
- Prepare clear, concise and fully supported audit workpapers that demonstrate evidence of procedures performed, conclusions reached, and alignment with audit standards and firm methodology.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, analyze unusual fluctuations, and investigate discrepancies by obtaining and evaluating supporting documentation from clients.
- Assist in the preparation and review of financial statement disclosures to ensure compliance with GAAP or IFRS and coordinate with engagement seniors or managers on proposed adjustments.
- Execute data analysis procedures using Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables, Power Query), and audit analytics tools (ACL, IDEA, SQL queries, Power BI) to identify anomalies, trends and exceptions.
- Coordinate and perform bank, customer and vendor confirmations, and follow up on any exceptions or non-responses to obtain sufficient audit evidence.
- Observe and participate in physical inventory counts and asset verifications, documenting observations and reconciling count results to company records.
- Lead and document testing of revenue recognition policies, cutoff testing and contract review to validate compliance with ASC 606 / IFRS 15 where applicable.
- Review and test payroll calculations, benefit accruals and related controls, ensuring appropriate supporting documentation and authorization exist.
- Assist with SOX documentation, including process narratives, control matrices, control testing procedures, and remediation plans for identified control deficiencies.
- Identify, document and communicate control deficiencies, misstatements and process improvement opportunities to client management and engagement leads, including drafting clear findings and recommended remediation actions.
- Work directly with client contacts to obtain requested schedules, supporting documentation and responses to audit inquiries, maintaining professionalism and timely follow-up to keep fieldwork on schedule.

- Maintain and enhance proficiency with firm audit tools and systems (CaseWare, TeamMate, ProSystem fx) by attending training, practicing workflows and proposing efficiency improvements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of audit processes by suggesting automation opportunities, checklists, and templates that increase quality and reduce rework.
