Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Perform thorough exterior washing, decontamination (iron removal, tar removal), clay bar treatment, and drying using best practices to avoid marring and water spots, ensuring a showroom-quality finish.
  • Conduct multi-stage paint correction, including machine buffing, polishing, and compounding, to remove swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, and restore gloss to OEM and aftermarket paints.
  • Apply paint protection systems such as sealants, polymer coatings, and multi-layer ceramic coatings (SiO2) following manufacturer specifications, cure times, and safety guidelines.
  • Execute interior deep cleaning services: vacuuming, shampooing carpets and upholstery, steam cleaning, leather cleaning and conditioning, fabric extraction, and odor removal to deliver hygienic, like-new interiors.
  • Perform headlight restoration, trim restoration, wheel and brake caliper cleaning, engine bay detailing, and glass polishing to improve safety and vehicle aesthetics.
  • Inspect vehicles at intake and delivery: document condition with photos, record existing damage, confirm customer expectations, and obtain authorized service agreements when required.
  • Prepare and protect vehicle surfaces for detailing work (masking trim, removing badges, protecting glass and rubber) to prevent accidental damage during compounding and polishing.
  • Execute paintless dent repair (PDR) basics when applicable, or coordinate with PDR specialists; file and communicate identified bodywork needs to service advisors.
  • Use and maintain professional tools and equipment: dual-action polishers, rotary buffers, extractors, steamers, pressure washers, air compressors, and hand tools, ensuring proper calibration and storage.
  • Manage safe handling, dilution, and disposal of chemical products, maintain SDS documentation, and follow environmental and workplace safety procedures at all times.
  • Deliver mobile detailing services, including loading/unloading equipment, performing on-site customer service, managing on-location water and power logistics, and ensuring security of client vehicles.
  • Execute spot and targeted touch-up services between full details (quick washes, interior freshen-ups) with consistent speed and quality for high-volume retail environments.
  • Perform quality control checks at completion of each job: final inspection, photo documentation, and correction of any deficiencies before customer handoff.
  • Educate customers about recommended paint protection plans, maintenance tips, and upsell value-added services (interior protection, headlight coating, wheel sealant) in a consultative, non-pushy manner.
  • Maintain accurate service records, parts and product usage logs, time tracking, and job tickets in shop management or CRM systems for billing and warranty purposes.
  • Troubleshoot common detailing challenges (stain removal, adhesive residue, water spot etching) and escalate complex issues to senior technicians or managers with documented findings and recommended solutions.
  • Train and mentor junior detailers and apprentices on technique, safety, product application, and shop standards to foster consistent workmanship and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with service advisors and body shop teams to sequence work for vehicles needing multiple services, ensuring efficient throughput and minimizing rework.
  • Maintain workshop cleanliness and organization: wash bays, tool areas, chemical storage, and dumpster handling; adhere to shop 5S/lean principles where applicable.
  • Monitor inventory of detailing supplies, place purchase requests, rotate stock to avoid expired products, and participate in vendor evaluations for product performance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Support warranty claims and post-service remediation: inspect returned vehicles, document issues, perform corrective detailing, and communicate resolution to customers and managers.
  • Follow company policies for customer property security, key control, and vehicle acceptance procedures, ensuring liability minimization and professional handling.
  • Participate in promotional detailing events, vehicle prep for auctions or sales events, and collaborate on marketing shoots by preparing show vehicles to photographic standards.
  • Maintain professional appearance and punctuality, representing the business positively during customer interactions and while on-site for mobile assignments.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with scheduling and dispatching detailing appointments, coordinating estimated times and resource allocation for same-day and mobile jobs.
  • Support sales and front-desk staff by providing accurate service time estimates, product recommendations, and technical clarifications to help close upgrades.
  • Contribute to periodic process reviews and standard operating procedure (SOP) updates to improve turnaround times, reduce defects, and enhance customer satisfaction.

Educational Background
