Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Inspect tires and wheels on vehicles to assess wear patterns, tread depth, sidewall damage, and internal defects; provide clear, safety-focused recommendations to customers and supervisors.
  • Mount and dismount tires using manual and automated tire changers across a wide range of tire sizes — from compact passenger tires to light truck assemblies — ensuring proper bead seating and rim protection.
  • Accurately wheel-balance assemblies using electronic balancers, apply static/dynamic weights as required, and document balancing adjustments to reduce vibration and prolong tire life.
  • Diagnose and repair common tire failures, including plugs, patches, and combination repairs, evaluating whether a tire is serviceable according to DOT and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Perform TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) diagnostics and sensor replacement, program/relearn sensors, and verify system integrity post-repair to maintain compliance and accuracy.
  • Rotate tires according to manufacturer recommendations and shop protocols to ensure even tread wear and maximize tire life; explain rotation patterns to customers when required.
  • Conduct pre- and post-service road force and runout checks; recommend alignment or suspension inspection when necessary to correct uneven wear or vibration issues.
  • Execute wheel and lug nut torque procedures using calibrated torque wrenches, following manufacturer specs and safety protocols to prevent wheel loose or damage.
  • Read and interpret repair orders, service manuals, and vehicle specifications; accurately estimate time and materials for tire services and communicate timelines to the service advisor or customer.
  • Maintain detailed service records in the shop management system, including tire serial numbers, repairs performed, TPMS updates, and customer approvals for warranty tracking.
  • Operate shop air systems, impact tools, and jacks/lifts safely; perform routine preventive maintenance on tire service equipment to ensure uptime and accuracy.
  • Manage used and new tire inventory: receive shipments, inspect tires for defects, label and organize stock, and track barcode or SKU movements for accurate inventory control.
  • Educate customers on tire maintenance best practices — proper inflation, seasonal tire selection, treadwear indicators, and basic roadside safety tips — to build trust and repeat business.
  • Adhere to shop safety standards, including proper disposal of used tires, puncture materials, and lubricants; use PPE and maintain a clean, organized work area to reduce hazards.
  • Execute emergency roadside tire changes and on-site service calls when assigned, ensuring safe and efficient completion of repairs in varied environments.
  • Work collaboratively with service advisors, parts departments, and other technicians to prioritize jobs, secure parts, and meet customer expectations within promised timeframes.
  • Support quality assurance by performing final inspections and test drives when required to verify repair integrity, ride quality, and absence of noise or vibration complaints.
  • Follow DOT, manufacturer, and company policies for tire replacement criteria, speed rating compatibility, and load index safety to ensure legal and safe installations.
  • Advise customers on seasonal tire changes, tire warranties, and up-selling opportunities (e.g., all-season to winter tires, performance tires) while maintaining a service-first approach.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians or apprentices in tire service best practices, safe operation of equipment, and shop procedures to build team capability.
  • Maintain awareness of new tire technologies and industry trends (run-flat, low-profile, TPMS enhancements) and attend periodic training or certification courses as assigned.

Secondary Functions

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to streamline shop workflows and reduce turnaround times for tire services.
  • Assist in light vehicle inspection tasks related to brakes, suspension, and steering to identify issues that affect tire wear or vehicle handling.
  • Help coordinate special promotions, roadside assistance, or seasonal changeover events by preparing inventory and scheduling technicians.
  • Contribute to shop recordkeeping, warranty claim submissions, and internal audits to ensure compliance with corporate standards.
  • Occasionally support basic parts counter or point-of-sale activities during peak periods, including tire sales, order entry, and customer check-out.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
