Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Assess the creditworthiness of retail and small business loan applicants by analyzing financial statements, credit bureau reports, cash flow projections, collateral valuations and repayment capacity; prepare comprehensive credit memos and recommend loan structuring options that align with policy.
- Originate, process, and close consumer, mortgage, commercial, and working capital loans, ensuring complete and accurate documentation, adherence to underwriting standards, and timely disbursement while minimizing operational risk.
- Manage a commercial and/or retail loan portfolio by monitoring covenants, conducting periodic reviews, early identification of deteriorating credit, and recommending remediation, restructures or workout strategies to mitigate potential losses.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships to grow deposits, cross-sell products (cards, payments, wealth solutions, insurance), and increase wallet share through targeted outreach, relationship reviews, and referral generation.
- Execute daily branch operations including teller oversight, vault management, cash reconciliations, and balancing procedures to ensure secure, efficient processing of withdrawals, deposits and payments.
- Conduct KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) due diligence, screen for sanctions, escalate suspicious activity, and ensure all customer on-boarding and periodic reviews meet regulatory and internal compliance standards.
- Prepare, submit and present credit proposals and loan packages to credit committees; incorporate risk analysis, recommended pricing, and recommended covenants while clearly articulating rationale and potential mitigants.
- Review and verify identity, signatures, and supporting documentation for new accounts and loan applications; resolve documentation shortfalls promptly to avoid operational delays and regulatory findings.
- Monitor portfolio performance metrics (NPLs, delinquency ratios, provision levels) and produce regular management reports with actionable insights to support strategic decision-making and capital allocation.
- Collaborate with internal partners (operations, legal, compliance, treasury, risk) to streamline processes, resolve exceptions, and implement system or policy changes to improve control and client experience.
- Execute and enforce bank policies and procedures across transactions, lending practices and customer interactions; conduct periodic audits and implement corrective action plans when gaps are identified.
- Provide financial advisory and product recommendations to customers based on needs analysis—offering cash management, payment solutions, trade services, and customized lending structures to support client growth.
- Negotiate loan terms, pricing, collateral security and covenants with customers and external stakeholders while safeguarding bank interests and maintaining long-term client relationships.
- Manage delinquency and recovery efforts by coordinating collection activity, restructuring offers, legal remedies, collateral enforcement and recoveries in accordance with approved policies and risk appetite.
- Oversee SLA adherence for service delivery, ensure accurate and timely completion of account maintenance requests, and escalate exceptions to minimize customer friction and operational risk.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes (e.g., consumer protection, banking laws, Basel guidelines) and incorporate changes into daily practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Lead or participate in branch or product training for staff on lending policies, sales techniques, fraud prevention, and system usage to raise competency and reduce error rates.
- Analyze market and competitor trends to recommend new pricing, product features, marketing initiatives or geographic focus areas to increase deposits and lending penetration.
- Implement and monitor internal controls related to transaction approvals, dual controls, segregation of duties, and documentation retention to prevent fraud and ensure audit readiness.
- Respond to and resolve complex customer complaints, escalations and litigation-related inquiries; coordinate with legal and compliance teams to ensure an appropriate, documented response and remediation.
- Maintain accurate cash flow forecasting and liquidity management at the branch or portfolio level to support daily operations, funding requirements and contingency planning.
- Support digital banking adoption by assisting customers with online banking, electronic fund transfers, and remote account opening processes, while driving digital product uptake to reduce transactional costs.
