Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Patrol designated beach and shoreline areas continuously to proactively monitor guest safety, water conditions, and compliance with beach rules, documenting observations in daily logs and incident reports.
  • Respond immediately to water-related and on-shore emergencies, perform water rescues if qualified, and provide emergency first aid, CPR and AED use until higher-level medical personnel arrive.
  • Inspect, maintain, and perform basic repairs on beach equipment and rental inventory (lounge chairs, umbrellas, paddleboards, kayaks, safety gear), ensuring items are safe, clean, and stored correctly.
  • Set up and break down beach amenities each day, including chairs, umbrellas, sunshades, signage, and activity areas, following brand standards and safety protocols for opening and closing procedures.
  • Provide friendly, proactive guest service by greeting visitors, answering questions about beach rules, amenities, tide and weather conditions, and offering directions and local information.
  • Manage daily rental operations: check guest IDs, process payments or course-of-sales transactions, explain rental terms and liability waivers, and ensure proper collection and return of rental items.
  • Enforce shore and water safety rules consistently and diplomatically — including no-swim zones, alcohol and smoking policies, leash rules for pets, and restricted areas — escalating incidents to management as necessary.
  • Conduct routine water and sand safety checks for hazards such as rips, debris, hazardous marine life, glass, or erosion, and coordinate hazard mitigation with maintenance or lifeguard teams.
  • Maintain an organized lost-and-found system, log found items, secure valuables appropriately, and assist guests with recovery procedures while protecting privacy and liability.
  • Monitor and report weather, tidal, and surf condition changes to the lifeguard team and management, initiating beach closures or advisories following established protocols.
  • Conduct daily sanitation and trash removal duties, ensuring public restrooms, foot-wash stations, pathways, and beach access points are clean, stocked, and accessible to guests.
  • Record and report incidents, injuries, and near-misses in compliance with local regulations and corporate incident-reporting standards, including witness statements and corrective actions taken.
  • Participate in scheduled staff briefings, safety drills, and training sessions (first aid, CPR, rescue techniques, customer service), maintaining certifications and compliance with regional safety legislation.
  • Coordinate with property security, local emergency services, and lifeguard staff to ensure cohesive response plans for high-risk scenarios such as severe weather, large crowds, or medical emergencies.
  • Lead crowd management and event support for beach activities (yoga classes, tournaments, concerts), directing pedestrian flow, marking event perimeters, and providing guest assistance as a public-facing safety resource.
  • Conduct basic inventory control: track supplies (first-aid kits, sunscreen dispensers, signage, rental equipment), submit restock orders, and reconcile rental inventory at shift end.
  • Support accessibility needs by assisting disabled guests with beach access equipment, guiding to ADA-compliant entry routes, and coordinating chair or equipment placement per guest requests.
  • Follow chemical, fuel, and equipment safety procedures when handling maintenance supplies, small engines (beach buggies, pumps), and sanitation materials, adhering to MSDS and local disposal regulations.
  • Participate in shoreline conservation and environmental stewardship activities, such as organized beach cleanups, dune protection, and wildlife disturbance minimization, and report protected species sightings to management.
  • Provide proactive upsell and guest engagement for ancillary services (beverage carts, private cabana reservations, lessons for water sports), capturing revenue opportunities while maintaining safety and service standards.
  • Supervise and mentor temporary or seasonal beach staff and volunteers during peak periods, assigning duties, conducting brief safety orientations, and monitoring performance to maintain consistent guest experience.
  • Execute closing procedures including securing equipment, locking storage, tallying rental revenue and deposits, preparing daily cash reconciliation, and handing over shift reports to the next team member or supervisor.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist management with scheduling seasonal staffing, coordinating shift coverage, and recommending staffing adjustments during peak holiday periods.
  • Support minor administrative tasks such as logging volunteer hours, assisting with permit documentation for beach events, and maintaining digital records of maintenance and incident reports.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Current First Aid certification with demonstrated competence in CPR and AED operation.
  • Formal Lifeguard certification (where required by employer or local regulations) and strong water rescue knowledge.
  • Experience operating beach maintenance equipment and small utility vehicles (golf carts, beach buggies, ATVs) according to safety protocols.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
