Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, maintain, and deliver type-specific Beechjet training syllabi for initial, transition, upgrade, and recurrent programs that align with FAA/EASA/CAA regulations and company SOPs; ensure syllabi are outcomes-based and include both ground and flight elements.
  • Conduct high-fidelity simulator instruction and evaluation for Beechjet type ratings, including full mission simulations, abnormal/emergency procedures, and upset recovery scenarios to certify pilot competency.
  • Perform line-oriented flight training (LOFT) and supervised line flying for pilots undergoing transition or upgrade, providing real-time coaching, debriefing, and final sign-off when competency is demonstrated.
  • Deliver structured ground school instruction covering aircraft systems (avionics, engines, fuel, pressurization), performance calculations, limitations, weight & balance, and manufacturer-specific memory items with an emphasis on practical pilot application.
  • Evaluate and assess pilot proficiency using objective performance standards, prepare detailed training records and reports, and recommend remedial training or certification based on documented performance.
  • Serve as a designated examiner or check airman where authorized, conducting proficiency checks, IPCs, and type rating checks in accordance with regulatory and company check standards.
  • Lead and facilitate CRM (Crew Resource Management), TEM (Threat and Error Management), and human factors workshops tailored to turbine/business jet operations to improve crew coordination and decision-making.
  • Design and implement scenario-based training (SBT) that integrates operational threats, weather, and company SOP deviations to build robust pilot judgment and situational awareness.
  • Maintain and interpret regulatory guidance, aircraft flight manuals (AFM), POH, MMEL/MEL entries, and manufacturer updates; incorporate regulatory and systems changes into training materials promptly.
  • Mentor and coach junior instructors and candidate instructors, providing structured feedback, instructional techniques, and evaluation criteria to grow the training team’s instructional capability.
  • Create, revise, and quality-control training aids, briefings, CBT/elearning modules, and assessment tools to ensure modern, consistent, and traceable learning pathways for pilots.
  • Coordinate training schedules with operations, maintenance, and flight planning to ensure efficient use of simulator and aircraft resources while minimizing operational disruption.
  • Lead or participate in post-incident training reviews, operational safety investigations, and safety risk assessments to identify recurrent training gaps and implement corrective training measures.
  • Execute proficiency and emergency procedure drills such as engine failures, rapid depressurization, fire suppression, rejected takeoffs, and single-pilot abnormal scenarios to validate pilot readiness for rare contingencies.
  • Provide timely, professional debriefs after training events that define strengths, corrective actions, and development plans; maintain a positive coaching approach while documenting required remedial steps.
  • Validate and endorse pilot logbooks, training records, and electronic training management systems entries to confirm regulatory compliance and audit readiness.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance and engineering teams to ensure that training reflects real-world aircraft configuration, avionics upgrades, and temporary flight limitations; feed operator/maintenance feedback into syllabi updates.
  • Support type conversion integrations for newly acquired aircraft or avionics upgrades, ensuring the training program is updated and that instructors are qualified on the new fit.
  • Monitor and manage instructor currency, qualifications, and recurrent requirements; schedule recurrent instructor training and standardization sessions to maintain instructional quality.
  • Provide expert input into SOP development, emergency checklists, and operational bulletins based on trends observed during training and line checks.
  • Represent the training department in cross-functional safety and operational meetings, providing training perspective on operational efficiency, risk mitigation, and crew performance metrics.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for training delivery, assessment accuracy, and participant satisfaction by collecting feedback and applying best practices in adult learning and simulation pedagogy.

Secondary Functions

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Type Rating: Current and active Beechjet / Hawker 400XP (or equivalent) type rating with recent experience instructing on the type.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Additional certifications in adult education, instructional design, or CRM facilitation are advantageous.
