Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Diagnose mechanical and electronic issues across diverse bike platforms (road, gravel, mountain, e-bike, commuter) using systematic testing, test rides, and diagnostic tools to produce accurate service plans and repair estimates for customers.
  • Perform complete bike assemblies from boxed units and pre-delivery inspections (PDI), including torqueing fasteners to manufacturer specifications, setting headset and bottom bracket preload, aligning brakes, and trimming cables/housings for safe, ride-ready handoff.
  • Service and repair drivetrains: inspect, measure, and replace chains, cassettes/freewheels, chainrings, derailleurs, jockey wheels and perform precision derailleur indexing, limit screw adjustment, and shifting optimization on mechanical and electronic groupsets.
  • Bleed, repair, and replace hydraulic brake systems (disc and rim) for SRAM, Shimano, Magura and other systems; including caliper alignment, rotor truing, pad replacement and ensuring consistent modulation and stopping power.
  • Build and true wheels: lace, tension, and dish spokes; replace broken spokes and nipples; perform lateral and radial truing; validate spoke tension with tensiometer and ensure wheel integrity for rider safety and longevity.
  • Diagnose and service suspension systems: fork and shock inspection, air spring/spring servicing, seal replacement, sag and rebound setup, and collaborating with warranty/service lines for manufacturer rebuilds or advanced repairs.
  • E-bike diagnostics and service: run battery safety checks and capacity inspection, motor diagnostics, firmware/software updates, sensor troubleshooting, and follow manufacturer procedures for high-voltage systems and safe storage/transport of battery units.
  • Perform tubeless tire installations and maintenance: seat beads, apply sealant, identify and repair large punctures, install plugs, and educate customers about tubeless benefits and upkeep.
  • Conduct safety checks and test rides after every service to validate repairs, confirm proper function (shifting, braking, suspension), and document any follow-up recommendations.
  • Replace bearings and service rotating assemblies: headset, bottom bracket, hubs — including press-fit BB removal/installation, bearing replacement, and bearing preload adjustment.
  • Execute warranty claims and technical support interactions with suppliers and manufacturers: prepare documentation, ship components for warranty inspection, and follow up to resolve complex warranty issues.
  • Maintain accurate work orders, service logs, parts used, labor times, and customer communications in POS/service management systems to ensure traceability, billing accuracy, and data for shop metrics.
  • Provide clear, consultative communication with customers: explain findings, recommend service levels, provide cost estimates, discuss maintenance plans, and upsell appropriate parts or service upgrades when beneficial and ethical.
  • Maintain and calibrate shop tools and equipment: torque wrenches, truing stands, hydraulic bleeders, tension meters, and diagnostic software to ensure consistent quality of work.
  • Perform frame alignment checks and minor frame repairs (threads, derailleur hanger replacement, cable stop repair) and coordinate with frame builders or manufacturers for structural repairs or recalls.
  • Train and mentor junior mechanics, apprentices, and seasonal staff on safe workshop practices, standard operating procedures, and technical techniques to raise overall shop capability.
  • Manage parts ordering and inventory control: forecast common consumables (tubes, sealant, brake pads), reorder critical items quickly, receive supplier shipments, and reconcile stock to reduce turnaround time and customer waiting.
  • Follow and enforce workshop safety protocols: hazardous materials handling (battery, lubricants, sealants), proper disposal of fluids and batteries, PPE use, and maintain clean, organized workstations.
  • Support shop events, demo days, group rides, and race-day pit support: set up transient repair stations, perform rapid repairs in high-pressure environments, and represent the shop or brand professionally.
  • Provide basic fitting and setup advice: saddle height, handlebar position, cockpit adjustments, and recommend professional bike-fitting referrals when appropriate.
  • Participate in continuous product and technical training to stay current on new drivetrains, brake systems, e-bike platforms, and suspension technologies.
  • Troubleshoot complex intermittent issues using methodical isolation techniques, component swaps, firmware log review, and collaboration with manufacturer technical teams.
  • Provide mobile repair services (if applicable): carry a stocked tool kit, perform roadside repairs, and manage on-site customer interactions and payment processing with portable POS tools.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
