Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Greet bowlers and guests warmly upon arrival, verify lane reservations, assign lanes, and manage walk-in traffic to maximize lane utilization and guest satisfaction.
  • Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems to process lane rentals, shoe rentals, food and beverage orders, merchandise sales, gift cards, and party deposits accurately and securely.

  • Monitor lanes and pinsetters during play to identify jams, misfeeds, or mechanical issues; perform basic troubleshooting and coordinate with maintenance or technicians for repairs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment by sweeping, mopping, clearing ball returns, wiping seating areas, and sanitizing high-touch surfaces throughout the facility.
  • Provide basic scoring assistance and troubleshooting for automatic scoring consoles; enter player names, explain scoring changes, and correct input errors as needed.
  • Take and manage party, birthday, corporate, and league reservations; prepare lanes and party areas with decorations, seating arrangements, and rental equipment according to booking specifications.
  • Enforce bowling center policies, safety guidelines, and age/footwear rules; intervene tactfully to resolve safety issues or disruptive behavior and escalate incidents to management when necessary.
  • Upsell value-added services such as party packages, food and beverage deals, private lanes, pro shop merchandise, and special event upgrades to increase per-visit revenue.
  • Prepare, plate, and deliver simple food and beverage orders (when assigned); follow food safety standards, portion controls, and safe handling procedures in accordance with local regulations.
  • Count, reconcile, and secure daily cash, credit card, and POS transactions; complete shift reports, close-out procedures, and deposit preparation following company guidelines.
  • Inspect and maintain bowling balls and rental equipment, remove defective balls from circulation, and report inventory needs or equipment faults to the pro shop or maintenance team.
  • Assist with league operations by checking in league teams, distributing lane rotations, collecting fees, recording scores, and communicating schedule changes or lane assignments.
  • Provide guest instruction and basic assistance for new or inexperienced bowlers, including how to hold the ball, proper approach etiquette, and where to find ramps or youth equipment.
  • Stock and rotate inventory of shoes, towels, youth ramps, bowling aids, and rental items; maintain orderliness in storage areas and log any broken or missing items.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures: inspect lanes and alley areas, power up/down lane equipment and scoring systems, secure cash drawers, and complete end-of-day cleaning checklists.
  • Support special events and tournaments by setting up signage, arranging seating, coordinating start times, assisting officials, and ensuring timely lane changes and score reporting.
  • Respond to guest complaints, refund requests, or service issues professionally; document incidents, apply company policy on compensation, and escalate unresolved matters to supervisors.
  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation protocols, including proper chemical use for cleaning equipment and adherence to workplace safety standards to minimize risk to guests and staff.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors about lane status, upcoming reservations, maintenance issues, and customer feedback to maintain seamless operations.
  • Train new attendants on POS operation, lane software, shoe fitting, safety protocols, opening/closing procedures, and customer service expectations to ensure consistent service levels.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist marketing and sales teams by distributing flyers, promoting seasonal specials, and supporting social media content capture (photos/videos of events) as requested.
  • Participate in inventory counts, order supplies (cleaning chemicals, shoes, snacks), and help manage vendor deliveries to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Help maintain the pro shop area by organizing merchandise displays, assisting customers with product selection, and supporting basic retail transactions.
  • Support staff scheduling and shift coverage by communicating availability, assisting with shift swaps, and covering when needed during peak periods.
  • Collect guest feedback through comment cards, exit interviews, or online review follow-ups and relay insights to management for service improvements.
  • Assist with light preventive maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, cleaning gutters around ball returns, and tightening loose seating hardware following safety guidelines.
  • Act as a liaison during community events, school functions, or corporate outings to ensure customized group needs are met and the event runs smoothly.
  • Support emergency response procedures by knowing evacuation routes, first-aid kit locations, and reporting accidents promptly to management.
  • Help coordinate with catering or third-party vendors when on-site food service is provided for private events or tournaments.
  • Maintain knowledge of local laws and licensing requirements affecting operation (e.g., food handling certificates, liquor policies where applicable) and notify management of compliance needs.

Required Skills & Competencies

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred; reliable attendance and basic literacy/numeracy skills required.
