Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design, implement, and continuously adapt individualized and group boxing training programs that develop technique, power, speed, endurance, ring IQ, and tactical awareness for athletes at beginner, amateur, and professional levels.
  • Lead daily boxing sessions including warm-ups, technical drills (jab, cross, hook, uppercut), footwork progressions, defensive maneuvers, pad/mitt work, heavy bag routines, and targeted conditioning circuits to meet specific athlete goals.
  • Plan and manage full fight camp cycles for competitive athletes: periodize training, taper appropriately, coordinate sparring schedules, and integrate strength & conditioning and recovery protocols to peak performance on fight night.
  • Supervise controlled sparring sessions, matching partners safely by weight, skill and style, instructing technique in real time, enforcing safety rules, and debriefing athletes to extract technical lessons.
  • Teach and refine advanced boxing tactics and ring strategy, including distance management, timing, combination development, counterpunching, pressure fighting, and opponent-specific game plans.
  • Conduct one-on-one coaching that diagnoses technical weaknesses using coaching cues and corrective drills, and develops measurable skill-improvement plans tracked over time.
  • Deliver sport-specific strength and conditioning sessions or coordinate with S&C staff to integrate power, explosiveness, anaerobic conditioning, mobility, and injury-prevention protocols tailored for boxers.
  • Perform regular performance assessments using video analysis, punch-output tracking, heart rate/conditioning metrics, and technical benchmarks; use data to modify training and set objective goals.
  • Provide boxing-specific nutrition guidance in collaboration with nutritionists when available: weight management strategies, hydration protocols, and fueling for training and competition.
  • Implement progressive skill ladders for youth development classes that prioritize safety, fundamentals, sportsmanship, and long-term athlete development principles.
  • Maintain professional coaching records: training plans, attendance logs, athlete progress notes, medical and weight-cutting records, and sparring reports to support athlete monitoring and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate with medical and physiotherapy staff to manage injuries, rehab protocols, return-to-play timelines, and modifications to training to protect athlete health.

  • Prepare athletes for weigh-ins and competition logistics: weight-cutting support, walk-throughs of competition rules, pre-fight routine coaching, psychological preparation and visualization techniques.
  • Maintain a clean, safe training environment by overseeing ring and equipment maintenance, enforcing gym safety protocols, and training athletes on proper gear usage and sanitation.
  • Facilitate video review sessions to break down sparring and match footage, highlight technical and tactical adjustments, and create homework drills for targeted improvement.
  • Lead community and promotional initiatives: host open days, workshops, charity events, and assist with social media promotion to drive membership and raise the gym’s competitive profile.
  • Enforce discipline, athlete conduct standards, and anti-doping/competition regulations while fostering a positive, inclusive culture that supports athlete welfare and retention.
  • Deliver youth safeguarding and child protection compliance when coaching minors, including background checks, adherence to safe coaching practices, and clear communication with parents/guardians.
  • Provide pre-fight corner coaching and strategic adjustments between rounds when assigned to act as cutman/corner coach, coordinating with cutmen and medical staff to maximize athlete performance under pressure.

Secondary Functions

  • Support promotional efforts by collaborating with marketing to produce content (training clips, fight highlights) and to communicate athlete successes.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus certified boxing coach qualification and First Aid/CPR.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, Sports Management, or related field.
  • Additional certifications: CSCS, Strength & Conditioning certification, NASM/ACE or equivalent, and nationally recognized boxing coach accreditation (e.g., USA Boxing Coach Certification or equivalent).

Experience Requirements
