Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  1. Set up, configure and operate broadcast equipment including cameras, microphones, audio consoles, video switchers, transmitters and routing systems for live and recorded programming.
  2. Monitor incoming and outgoing audio and video signals for strength, clarity, synchronization and overall quality, making real‑time adjustments as needed.
  3. Troubleshoot and repair technical malfunctions in broadcast equipment or signal paths during live operations to minimise disruption.
  4. Conduct routine preventive maintenance, calibration, inspection and performance testing of all broadcasting systems and studio infrastructure.
  5. Install and commission new broadcast hardware, software or facility upgrades, integrating them into existing systems and workflows.
  6. Maintain accurate logs, records of equipment usage, maintenance schedules, signal quality metrics and incident reports.
  7. Collaborate with producers, directors, engineers, and other technical staff to coordinate technical requirements for broadcasts and live events.
  8. Configure and support remote or outside‑broadcast units, mobile studios, field transmission links and ensure connectivity back to central facility.
  9. Coordinate with network engineers, satellite uplink/downlink teams, transmission providers and IT infrastructure teams to support multi‑platform broadcasts.
  10. Ensure compliance with regulatory and licensing requirements (such as FCC or equivalent) and broadcast standards including signal, frequency, data and metadata protocols.
  11. Manage audio/visual workflows including file‑based systems, media asset management, editing suites, and post‑production support for broadcast output.
  12. Perform system upgrades, software patching, hardware replacements and technology refreshes to keep broadcast operations current with industry trends.
  13. Provide first‑line support, diagnosis and escalation of technical issues, participating in shift‑based monitoring for 24/7 broadcast operations.
  14. Implement and maintain test equipment like oscilloscopes, vector scopes, digital meters and other diagnostic tools to confirm system integrity.
  15. Manage inventory of parts, cables, connectors, broadcast spares and recommend equipment procurement or replacement as required.
  16. Train junior staff, interns or production personnel on use of broadcast technology, safe handling of equipment and standard operating procedures.
  17. Work in high‑pressure live environments, adapt quickly to unforeseen issues and ensure uninterrupted programming for viewers/listeners.
  18. Monitor emerging broadcast technologies such as IP‑based workflows, cloud delivery, streaming platforms and integrate where applicable.
  19. Conduct quality checks, signal alignment, colour calibration, audio level balancing, and detailed verification to meet high‑definition broadcast requirements.
  20. Liaise with external vendors, service providers and contractors for installation, maintenance or repair of broadcast transmission infrastructure and satellite facilities.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad‑hoc technical data requests and exploratory diagnostics of broadcast system performance metrics.
  • Contribute to broadcast technology strategy, recommending infrastructure enhancements and roadmap upgrades.
  • Collaborate across business units including digital streaming, OTT platforms and content delivery networks to translate broadcast needs into engineering requirements.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining broadcast equipment: cameras, audio consoles, video switchers, transmitters, routers.
  • Strong understanding of audio/video signal flow, synchronization, compression formats, streaming workflows and quality control.
  • Ability to install, configure and maintain digital broadcast systems, automation servers, media file servers, routing infrastructure.
  • Competence in troubleshooting hardware/software failures under live‑broadcast conditions and implementing repair solutions quickly.
  • Familiarity with IT networking, file‑based workflows, IP broadcast infrastructure, media asset management and cloud delivery.
  • Experience working with test and diagnostic equipment (oscilloscopes, vector scopes, digital meters) for calibration and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations, standards and compliance practices relevant to broadcasting (e.g., licensing, signal specs).

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate in broadcasting, electronics or related field often required.
