- Design and validate low-latency streaming, batching, and message-handling patterns for high-throughput order routing and execution, including latency profiling and performance tuning.
- Define technical requirements and acceptance criteria for post-trade processes including trade capture, affirmation, confirmation, allocation, clearing and settlement integrations with custodians and clearing counterparties.
- Collaborate with risk and compliance teams to implement pre-trade controls, order limits, rule engines, audit trails, and trade surveillance hooks that satisfy regulatory regimes such as MiFID II, Reg NMS, SEC, or local market rules.
- Lead cross-functional implementation programs, coordinate product owners, engineering squads, QA, and operations, and manage go-to-production plans with clear cutover and rollback strategies.
- Build and maintain detailed interface specifications, sequence diagrams, and run-book documentation for all brokerage integrations and multi-venue connectivity.
- Mentor engineering and operations teams on market structure, trading terminology, and the implications of order types, execution algorithms (algos), and liquidity routing strategies.
- Manage third-party vendor relationships, negotiate SLA/OLA terms, oversee upgrades and security/compliance attestations, and coordinate vendor fixes during incidents.
- Design observability and monitoring frameworks for trading pipelines β metrics, dashboards, tracing, and alerting to ensure real-time health of order flow and trade processing.
- Drive automation of deployment and release cycles (CI/CD) for marketplace adapters and microservices, ensuring safe and auditable change management in production trading environments.
- Conduct impact assessments and data lineage mapping for new product features, exchange connections, or regulatory changes affecting trade reporting and tax reporting pipelines.
- Define data contract standards and schemas for trades, fills, positions, and corporate actions to ensure consistent downstream reporting, risk calculations, and reconciliation.
- Provide client- and sales-facing technical advisory during client onboarding, custom integration projects, and strategic pre-sales engagements to articulate platform capabilities and limitations.
- Lead incident response and post-mortem analysis for production trading incidents, driving root-cause analysis, remediation plans, and preventive controls to reduce recurrence.
- Partner with cloud and infrastructure teams to design resilient, secure, and scalable deployment topologies for brokerage services across public cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP) and hybrid environments.
- Champion performance and capacity planning exercises, including stress testing, message throughput simulations, and cost/benefit trade-offs for latency vs. resiliency.
- Develop and deliver training and knowledge transfer materials to business users, operations, and support teams to ensure smooth adoption of new brokerage features and integrations.
- Recommend and implement best practices for secure key management, encryption, and connectivity (TLS, VPN, Direct Connect) when interfacing with venues, counterparties, and vendors.
- Evaluate and integrate market data feeds, reference data services, and pricing engines to support pre-trade decisioning and post-trade valuation workflows.
- Partner with product and engineering leads to prioritize roadmap features that reduce operational burden, improve execution quality, and unlock new brokerage revenue streams.
Secondary Functions
- Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis.
- Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap.
- Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements.
- Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies within the data engineering team.
- Assist in preparing regulatory filings and technical documentation required for market connectivity and exchange certifications.
- Support proof-of-concept work to evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., serverless trade processing, event streaming with Kafka, or real-time analytics).
