Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Own and be accountable for full P&L performance, including revenue generation, gross margin, operating expenses, EBITDA targets and cash flow management, with monthly reporting to stakeholders and investors.
- Develop, communicate and execute a three-to-five-year strategic business plan that defines target markets, competitive positioning, growth levers, product and service roadmap, and exit or scaling strategies.
- Build and implement annual budgets and rolling financial forecasts, monitor variances, and take corrective actions to protect margins and liquidity.
- Design and oversee pricing strategies, promotions and discounting policies that optimize revenue, lifetime customer value, and margin while remaining competitive in the market.
- Lead sales and business development efforts, set sales targets, design incentive plans, manage key accounts, and personally engage in high-value negotiations and strategic partnerships.
- Create and execute integrated marketing and brand plans (digital, PR, events, content, partnerships) that drive customer acquisition, retention, lifetime value and measurable ROI.
- Recruit, hire, onboard and mentor senior team members and supervisors; define organizational structure, set performance expectations, conduct performance reviews, and foster a high-performance culture.
- Design and optimize core operational processes—supply chain, production, fulfillment, inventory management, quality assurance and customer service—to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and scale reliably.
- Negotiate and manage supplier and vendor contracts, service level agreements, and procurement strategies to secure favorable terms and mitigate supply risk.
- Implement and maintain systems and technology (CRM, ERP, accounting software, analytics tools) to enable accurate reporting, operational control and data-driven decision making.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, tax and regulatory obligations including employment law, licensing, health & safety, data protection (e.g., GDPR), and industry-specific standards.
- Manage cash, working capital and banking relationships, including lines of credit, vendor financing, and payroll obligations; plan for and execute capital raises or debt financing when required.
- Define, track and report key business metrics and KPIs (customer acquisition cost, churn, ARPU, gross margin, burn rate) and use them to drive continuous improvement and investor communications.
- Lead product or service development and innovation by collecting customer insights, prioritizing features, managing roadmaps and coordinating with engineering, design or suppliers to deliver market-fit solutions.
- Own customer experience end-to-end: design journey maps, implement retention and loyalty programs, resolve escalations personally and set standards for NPS and satisfaction.
- Identify and evaluate new market opportunities, distribution channels, partnerships, mergers & acquisitions and franchise or licensing models to accelerate growth and diversification.
- Drive operational scaling initiatives—process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), training programs and delegated authority—to transition from founder-led operations to distributed leadership.
- Manage risk and business continuity planning, including insurance coverage, cybersecurity protocols, contingency plans for supply interruption, and crisis communications.
- Act as the public and media-facing representative of the business including investor relations, community outreach, strategic partner presentations, and high-profile sales pitches.
- Lead continuous margin improvement and cost reduction programs through lean principles, renegotiation of supplier terms, optimization of SKUs and operational efficiencies.
- Ensure robust reporting and governance for board meetings, investor updates and strategic reviews, preparing clear financial packs, progress dashboards and action plans.
- Oversee human resources functions including compensation strategy, benefits, compliance, culture initiatives and implementing performance management frameworks aligned to business goals.
Secondary Functions
- Support ad-hoc strategic analyses, market sizing and go-to-market feasibility assessments to inform short-term pivots or new product launches.
- Serve as a mentor and coach to emerging leaders within the organization, providing hands-on guidance for succession planning and leadership development.
- Contribute to pricing, merchandising and promotional calendars by analyzing sales trends, customer segmentation and competitive intelligence.
- Coordinate with external advisors—legal counsel, accountants, HR consultants, and marketing agencies—to ensure expert support for growth initiatives.
