Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Read, interpret and convert architectural plans, shop drawings, elevations and client specifications into detailed cutting lists, part drawings and production sequences to manufacture custom and semi-custom cabinetry that meets dimensional and aesthetic tolerances.
- Accurately measure site conditions and existing structures on-site for retrofit and built-in installations, identify obstacles, adjust templates, and produce as-built documentation to ensure a precise fit during installation.
- Set up, program and operate woodworking machinery (table saws, panel saws, jointers, planers, routers, CNC routers, edgebanders, and band saws) to cut, shape and finish cabinet components while maintaining safety guards and following standardized operating procedures.
- Fabricate carcasses, face frames, drawers, doors, moldings and decorative components using solid wood, plywood, MDF, laminates, veneers and specialty materials, applying appropriate joinery methods such as dadoes, rabbets, dowels, biscuits and pocket screws.
- Assemble cabinetry using clamps, glue, fasteners and biscuits; ensure square, plumb and true assemblies; verify drawer functions, door gaps and hardware alignment prior to finishing and installation.
- Install cabinetry and millwork at residential and commercial job sites, anchor cabinets to walls and floors, scribe and trim to uneven surfaces, install countertops, appliances and plumbing fixtures working closely with other trades to coordinate timing and interfaces.
- Select, fit and install hardware (hinges, slides, pulls, latches, catches and locking systems) and align hardware for smooth operation and manufacturer-specified clearances.
- Apply finishes including sanding, staining, varnishing, lacquering, spraying, laminating and edge banding to achieve specified color, sheen and durability standards; prepare parts for finish using dust-free processes and quality inspection.
- Operate CNC programming, nesting and toolpath verification for panel optimization, reducing material waste and improving production throughput; modify G-code or CAM outputs to solve fabrication issues and optimize cycle times.
- Create and maintain jigs, templates and fixtures for repeatable production and complex custom work; fabricate specialty jigs for shaped doors, curved cabinets and inlaid work to ensure consistency and efficiency.
- Perform on-site problem solving and field modifications, including trimming, shimming, patching, and rebuilding components to resolve unforeseen conditions or client change requests while minimizing project delays.
- Prepare accurate material takeoffs, labor estimates and time studies for projects, working with production managers and estimators to ensure competitive bidding and adherence to budget and schedule constraints.
- Maintain organized shop layouts, stock rotation, inventory tracking, and ordering of lumber, sheet goods, hardware and finishing supplies to ensure uninterrupted production and reduce lead times.
- Enforce and model shop safety protocols including PPE usage, saw blade and cutter maintenance, dust collection system upkeep, and lockout/tagout procedures to reduce accidents and maintain compliance with OSHA and local regulations.
- Conduct quality control inspections at multiple stages—cutting, assembly, finishing and installation—documenting discrepancies and performing corrective actions to meet company standards and client expectations.
- Collaborate with designers, architects and project managers to advise on material selection, construction details, cost-effective alternatives and installation sequencing for improved constructability and client satisfaction.
- Build prototypes, samples and mock-ups for client approvals, design verification and trade coordination, iterating quickly on design changes and documenting final specifications for production release.
- Train, mentor and supervise junior cabinetmakers, apprentices and installers — providing hands-on coaching, skills assessments and feedback to build team capability and maintain consistent workmanship standards.
- Maintain and perform routine maintenance on hand and power tools, machinery calibration and shop equipment, scheduling repairs and liaising with vendors to prevent downtime and extend equipment life.
- Document production processes, work orders, change orders and installation notes; update job files, digital drawings and client records to ensure traceability and accurate handover to clients and facilities teams.
- Coordinate delivery logistics, protect finished goods during transport and supervise offloading and final positioning on site; address damage claims, punchlists and post-installation client walkthroughs to ensure complete satisfaction.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives, suggest workflow, layout and tooling enhancements, and participate in lean manufacturing exercises to reduce cycle times, scrap, and cost while improving quality.

Educational Background
Minimum Education:
