Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient cardiology care including daily rounds, acute consults, medical management of ACS, heart failure exacerbations, arrhythmias, valvular disease, and perioperative cardiac risk assessment while documenting clear, guideline‑based plans in the EHR.
  • Perform and interpret diagnostic cardiology tests independently, including transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography (TTE/TEE), stress testing (exercise and pharmacologic), ambulatory monitoring (Holter/event), and cardiopulmonary exercise testing, ensuring accurate reporting and appropriate follow-up.
  • Lead and execute invasive cardiovascular procedures in the cardiac catheterization lab such as diagnostic coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) including complex interventions (bifurcation, CTO), hemodynamic assessments, and intravascular imaging (IVUS/OCT), following institutional protocols and safety standards.
  • Manage device-based therapies: evaluate, implant, program, and follow patients with pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), and collaborate with device clinic staff to ensure appropriate remote monitoring and post‑implant care.
  • Provide longitudinal outpatient cardiology care in clinic, delivering evidence-based management of hypertension, coronary artery disease, hyperlipidemia, valvular disease, heart failure with reduced and preserved ejection fraction, and preventive cardiovascular risk reduction.

  • Ensure high-quality patient safety and experience by following evidence-based infection prevention for invasive procedures, managing peri-procedural anticoagulation/antiplatelet therapy, and addressing patient and family concerns with empathy and clarity.
