Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead and supervise daily terminal operations across assigned shifts, ensuring safe, timely processing of inbound, outbound, and transit air/sea/land cargo while meeting SLA and throughput KPIs.
  • Manage staffing levels and shift rosters, allocate personnel to load/unload, sorting, scanning, and documentation stations, and adjust resources in real time to address peaks and irregular operations.
  • Enforce and coach teams on SOPs for cargo handling, segregation, labeling, pallet build-up, securement, and towbar/trolley/forklift operation to minimize damage and meet carrier/airport/terminal standards.
  • Ensure strict compliance with dangerous goods (DG) regulations (IATA/ICAO/IMDG/DOT as applicable) by verifying declarations, segregation, packaging, and acceptance procedures before acceptance or loading.
  • Oversee accuracy and integrity of cargo documentation including AWBs, bills of lading, manifests, customs paperwork, commercial invoices, and certificates of origin; correct discrepancies and escalate when required.
  • Coordinate with ramp/ground handling, airlines, trucking partners, customs brokers, and freight forwarders to plan load sequencing, equipment allocation, and gate movements to optimize aircraft/vehicle turnaround.
  • Monitor and report operational KPIs (throughput, dwell time, damage rate, on-time departures, chargeable weight accuracy), identify trends, and implement corrective actions to improve productivity and quality.
  • Conduct pre-shift briefings and post-shift debriefs to communicate priorities, operational changes, health & safety issues, and performance metrics to frontline staff and supervisors.
  • Conduct hazard assessments and lead incident investigations for injuries, property damage, security breaches, and cargo loss/theft; produce root cause analysis and corrective action plans.
  • Maintain terminal equipment readiness by scheduling preventive maintenance, coordinating repairs for forklifts, belt loaders, dollies, conveyors, and radios, and ensuring safe operation standards are met.
  • Train and certify staff on equipment operation (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks), cargo handling techniques, documentation systems, and emergency procedures; maintain training records and competency matrices.
  • Implement and audit security controls for screened/secured cargo areas, access control, chain of custody, and CCTV evidence management to meet aviation security and customer requirements.
  • Manage inventory control for terminal stock items (pallets, nets, straps, dunnage) and consumables; reconcile shortages, track usage patterns, and work with procurement to prevent stock-outs.
  • Oversee consolidation and deconsolidation activities, including ULD/pallet build-up, shrink-wrap, labeling, and weight/volume verification to optimize load factor and compliance with weight and balance rules.
  • Facilitate customs clearance workflows and hold release procedures by liaising with customs authorities and brokers to expedite inspections, release holds, and reduce dwell time and demurrage costs.
  • Resolve operational disruptions such as delays, misroutes, documentation errors, or cargo discrepancies by applying real-time problem solving, coordinating stakeholders, and documenting corrective measures.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs in cargo management systems (CMS), warehouse management systems (WMS), and flight/transport manifests; ensure data integrity for billing and audit trails.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives such as 5S, Kaizen, root-cause analysis, and process standardization to increase throughput, reduce damage, and lower operating costs.
  • Implement and monitor terminal safety programs including PPE enforcement, forklift safe zones, manual handling training, and emergency response drills to reduce injury rates and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Manage customer relationships on-site, handle escalations professionally, provide status updates, and implement service recovery actions to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Prepare and present operational performance reports, safety metrics, and staffing forecasts to station/area management and participate in cross-functional operational planning and budgeting.

Secondary Functions

  • Support terminal-level business continuity planning, including contingency staffing plans and alternate routing for irregular operations (IRROPS) and severe weather.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects such as terminal expansions, technology implementations (WMS/CMS upgrades), and vendor selection for ground support equipment.
  • Assist in audit readiness for internal, airline, regulatory, and customer audits by maintaining records, facilitating walkthroughs, and implementing audit recommendations.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.

Experience Requirements
