Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead the development, articulation and continuous refinement of the company’s 3–5 year corporate strategy, translating vision into prioritized initiatives, measurable KPIs, and an executable roadmap that aligns with the Board and executive team.
  • Own the corporate innovation strategy and roadmap, designing and operationalizing an end-to-end innovation pipeline — from ideation and incubation to scale — that delivers measurable revenue, cost or strategic advantage.
  • Identify, evaluate and recommend inorganic growth opportunities including M&A targets, strategic partnerships, alliances, and joint ventures; oversee due diligence, valuation assumptions and integration planning in collaboration with finance and legal.
  • Drive enterprise-wide digital transformation programs by partnering with technology, product, operations and HR to modernize processes, adopt emerging technologies, and capture efficiency and customer-experience improvements.
  • Conduct deep market, competitive and trend analysis to surface white-space opportunities, black-swan risks, and scenarios that inform strategic choices and resource allocation decisions.
  • Establish and manage a portfolio management discipline, prioritize cross-functional initiatives based on strategic impact, ROI, and resource constraints, and track portfolio performance through quarterly business reviews and scorecards.
  • Build and lead a high-performing strategy and innovation team (strategy managers, data analysts, product owners, corporate development professionals), setting hiring priorities, career frameworks and performance objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Board on strategic risks and opportunities, prepare Board-level materials, and present scenario-based recommendations and tradeoffs to secure alignment and approvals.
  • Design and operationalize new business models and go-to-market strategies for new product lines, geographic expansion or platform plays, including pricing strategy, channel mix and commercialization plans.
  • Sponsor and institutionalize customer discovery, rapid prototyping, pilot programs and A/B test frameworks that accelerate validated learning and reduce time-to-value for innovation bets.
  • Implement advanced analytics, competitive intelligence, and customer-insight capabilities to inform product roadmap decisions, strategic investments, and segmentation strategies.
  • Champion cross-functional governance and operating rhythms (steering committees, stage-gate processes, innovation sprints) to accelerate decision velocity and reduce execution friction on strategic priorities.
  • Negotiate strategic contracts and partnership agreements with ecosystem players (technology vendors, startups, academic institutions, industry consortia) to expand capabilities and accelerate time-to-market.
  • Lead strategic workforce planning for new capabilities, defining competency gaps, talent acquisition strategy, and reskilling/upskilling programs required to deliver transformation objectives.
  • Drive capital allocation and investment prioritization, defining criteria, expected returns, and risk profiles for major strategic investments and new ventures.
  • Oversee post-transaction integration for acquisitions and alliances, ensuring realization of synergies, retention of critical talent, harmonization of systems and achievement of pre-defined milestones.
  • Design and deploy experimentation frameworks and KPIs to validate hypotheses, quantify strategic assumptions, and make data-driven kill/scale decisions on innovation initiatives.
  • Translate complex strategy into clear communications, playbooks and change plans to secure stakeholder buy-in across executive leadership, business units and frontline teams.
  • Monitor macroeconomic, regulatory and technological shifts and develop contingency plans and scenario-based strategies to preserve optionality and resilience.
  • Foster an organizational culture of innovation by implementing ideation programs, internal venture funds, incentive models and recognition processes that reward calculated risk-taking and learning.
  • Partner with Marketing, Sales and Product teams to align innovation initiatives with demand-generation, channel readiness and customer adoption strategies to accelerate commercialization.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging technology platforms (AI/ML, cloud, IoT, blockchain) in partnership with CTO/CDO to create differentiated capabilities and defend against disruption.
  • Define measurable OKRs and performance metrics for strategy and innovation functions; lead continuous improvement cycles to optimize processes and outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance, governance and ethical considerations are embedded in innovation activities, particularly when deploying customer data, AI systems or regulated solutions.
