Primary Functions
- Supervise groups of children at all times to ensure their physical safety and emotional well‑being, maintaining required staff-to-child ratios and intervening quickly and calmly to prevent and resolve conflicts.
- Implement daily routines (arrival, meals, naps, toileting, outdoor play) and support transitions between activities to create a predictable, secure environment that reduces stress and promotes learning.

- Maintain consistent, positive behavior management by using approved strategies (redirection, praise, clear boundaries) and accurately documenting incidents and actions taken for follow-up.
- Assist with feeding, bottle preparation, and meal supervision following hygiene and dietary requirements; support children with allergies or special dietary needs according to care plans.
- Support personal care routines including diapering, toileting assistance, dressing and hygiene in a respectful, developmentally appropriate manner while preserving children's dignity and privacy.
- Administer routine medication and follow healthcare plans only with authorized parental consent and in accordance with center policies and training; accurately record all medication given.
- Implement individual support plans (including SEN or inclusion plans) under supervision, carrying out prescribed activities and adaptations to support children with additional needs.
- Conduct daily safety checks of indoor and outdoor play areas and equipment, report hazards immediately, and assist with minor cleaning, sanitizing toys and surfaces to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Escort children safely on supervised trips and walks, following center risk assessments, securing parental consents and using appropriate safety equipment such as pushchairs, harnesses or high-visibility vests.
- Promote language development, early literacy and numeracy through one-on-one interactions, story time, songs and scaffolded questions that extend children’s thinking and vocabulary.
- Support routines for sleep and rest, monitoring children closely and following sleep position and monitoring policies to ensure safe sleep practices are observed.
- Build warm, professional relationships with parents and carers at drop-off and pick-up, sharing factual updates about the child’s day and escalating concerns to the lead teacher or manager as required.
- Participate in safeguarding and child protection duties by following reporting procedures, completing safeguarding records promptly and attending required safeguarding training.
- Respond calmly and effectively to minor injuries and illnesses, provide basic first aid within the scope of your training, and complete incident and accident reports that are shared with parents and the manager.
- Prepare and maintain age-appropriate resources and learning materials, help set up activity stations and pack away equipment at the end of the day to ensure an orderly classroom environment.

- Take direction from the lead practitioner to adapt the environment and activities for children recovering from illness, with sensory sensitivities, or undergoing transitions such as starting preschool.
- Participate in emergency drills, follow evacuation and lockdown procedures, and support the safe and orderly movement of children in line with the center’s emergency plans.
- Support toilet training programs in partnership with parents and lead staff, using agreed strategies and consistent encouragement to promote independence.
- Engage in reflective practice by contributing observations and feedback during team meetings to improve classroom delivery and child outcomes.
Secondary Functions
- Maintain accurate daily registers, attendance records and sign-in/sign-out logs; assist with basic administrative tasks such as filing, scanning and communicating with families via the center's parent app or email.
- Help prepare simple snack menus and assist with food ordering and stock rotation following health and safety and allergy management procedures.
- Attend regular staff meetings, professional development sessions and in-service training to maintain and update early years knowledge and required certifications (e.g., First Aid, Safeguarding).
- Support the lead teacher with assessments and preparation for inspection visits by ensuring documentation, learning journals and displays are up to date and accessible.
- Contribute to recruitment support by participating in candidate observations or being present during trial days when requested by management.
- Provide cover for short-term staff absences by taking on additional supervisory responsibilities while always working within your competency and reporting line.
- Assist in liaising with external professionals (speech therapists, health visitors, social workers) by preparing materials, collecting consent forms and supporting sessions with children.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)

Educational Background
Minimum Education:
