Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct thorough factual investigations and legal research to evaluate civil claims, identifying applicable statutes, case law, regulations, and procedural requirements to build sound litigation strategies for clients.
  • Draft, review and file complex pleadings, complaints, answers, counterclaims, motions (including motions to dismiss and motions for summary judgment), and supporting memoranda in state and federal courts.
  • Manage the full litigation lifecycle for multiple cases simultaneously — from initial intake and discovery through trial preparation, hearings, trial, and post-trial motions or appeals — ensuring deadlines and court rules are strictly met.
  • Plan and execute discovery strategies including preparing and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission, subpoenas, and managing document review and privilege logs.
  • Prepare, take, and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and expert witnesses, including drafting deposition outlines, preparing witnesses, and using deposition testimony strategically in motions and trial.
  • Prepare pleadings, trial briefs, jury instructions, voir dire questions, and trial exhibits; coordinate courtroom logistics and present persuasive oral arguments and examinations at hearings and trials.
  • Negotiate settlements, mediation agreements, and alternative dispute resolution outcomes, analyzing risks and advising clients on cost-benefit considerations to secure favorable, enforceable resolutions.
  • Retain, collaborate with, and manage expert witnesses (medical, forensic, economic, engineering, valuation experts), overseeing expert reports, Daubert/Frye challenges, and expert deposition strategy.
  • Advise clients on legal exposure, risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, contract interpretation, remedial actions, and preventative measures to reduce the likelihood or impact of future disputes.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, settlements, releases, indemnity agreements, and confidentiality provisions to protect client rights and limit future liability.
  • Lead and supervise junior associates, paralegals, and legal assistants in discovery, drafting, research, and case management tasks, providing constructive feedback and quality control on legal documents.
  • Prepare and deliver persuasive oral and written legal opinions, client memoranda, and status reports that summarize litigation posture, strategic options, timelines, and projected costs.
  • Manage client relationships proactively, conducting regular status conferences, explaining legal strategy and realistic outcomes, and maintaining clear and timely communications to preserve client trust.
  • Oversee billing, timekeeping, and matter budgets; prepare fee agreements, track litigation expenses, and work with finance to address invoicing, retainers, and cost recovery mechanisms.
  • Conduct due diligence reviews for litigation-related transactions, mergers, real estate closings, or insurance claims, identifying potential liabilities and drafting risk allocation language.
  • File and manage appeals, including drafting notices of appeal, appellate briefs, and preparing oral argument materials while coordinating with appellate specialists as needed.
  • Monitor changes in statutory law, court decisions, local rules, and procedural updates; implement practice adjustments and train team members on new legal trends and compliance issues.
  • Coordinate with opposing counsel, courts, mediators, and administrative agencies to schedule hearings, conferences, ADR sessions, and to exchange essential filings or discovery materials.
  • Conduct witness interviews and trial preparation sessions, develop themes and trial narratives, prepare demonstrative exhibits, and rehearse direct and cross-examinations to maximize persuasive impact.
  • Supervise electronic discovery processes (e-discovery), including collection protocols, custodial interviews, data preservation, litigation holds, document review platforms, and meet-and-confers on ESI disputes.
  • Evaluate potential class actions or multi-party litigation risks, work with co-counsel or local counsel, and design strategies for joinder, consolidation, or decertification as appropriate.
  • Implement case triage and prioritization for high-volume dockets to focus resources on matters with the greatest legal or business impact and to ensure timely compliance with statutory limitations and statutes of repose.
  • Prepare and prosecute administrative claims or hearings before regulatory bodies, tribunals, and boards, ensuring procedural compliance and effective administrative advocacy.
  • Identify business development opportunities, prepare proposals and pitch materials, participate in client development meetings, and maintain professional networks to grow practice areas.
  • Ensure strict adherence to ethical obligations and professional responsibility, including conflict checks, confidentiality protections, client consent procedures, and court reporting duties.

Educational Background
