Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Produce high-quality, production-ready concept art for characters, creatures, props, vehicles, environments, set pieces and UI/cinematic moments that align with the project's art direction and storytelling goals.
- Research and develop strong moodboards and visual references that establish thematic direction and historical/technical plausibility for characters, environments, and props.
- Create multiple exploratory design iterations quickly, presenting varied silhouettes, silhouettes-to-detail progression, and rationale for chosen directions to stakeholders.
- Deliver detailed character turnarounds, expression sheets, costume breakdowns, and orthographic views to support modeling, rigging, and animation teams.
- Generate environment concept keys, lighting studies, color scripts, and staging compositions to inform lighting, VFX, and level design decisions.
- Paint final concept illustrations and high-fidelity color keys that communicate mood, scale, materiality, and narrative context for cinematic sequences and promotional pieces.
- Collaborate with Art Directors and cross-disciplinary leads to refine concepts based on design constraints, technical limitations, and production schedules.
- Translate narrative briefs and game design documents into visual solutions that both inspire production teams and meet gameplay requirements.
- Deliver asset breakdowns, LOD considerations, and poly/texturing guidance to 3D teams, ensuring concepts are optimized for target platforms and budgets.
- Prepare and maintain concept files, layers, and naming conventions for seamless handoff to 3D, texture, and VFX teams; include annotations, material callouts, and reference links.
- Build and maintain a consistent visual language and style guide for the project; document color palettes, lighting approaches, texture language, and recurring motif usage.
- Conceptualize and iterate on key cinematic frames, storyboard panels, and camera staging with an understanding of shot composition, pacing, and cinematic continuity.
- Produce quick thumbnail sketches and refined comps under tight deadlines to support sprint milestones, concept reviews, and stakeholder demos.
- Participate in regular concept reviews, critiques, and design syncs; synthesize feedback into actionable revisions and communicate changes clearly to collaborators.
- Integrate 3D blockouts, photobashes, and texture-painted thumbnails into concept workflows to accelerate iteration and validate designs in-engine when necessary.
- Mentor junior artists and interns by providing constructive feedback, technical tips (brushes, workflows), and portfolio guidance to elevate team capabilities.
- Establish repeatable workflows, PSD templates, and asset libraries that improve team efficiency and reduce rework during production cycles.
- Evaluate and propose tooling, plugins, and pipeline improvements (e.g., custom brushes, 3D sketching tools) to accelerate ideation and asset handoff.
- Ensure all concept assets meet technical and legal requirements (reference licensing, IP considerations) and are stored in the shared asset management system with correct metadata.
- Partner with Narrative Designers to iterate on character backstory and visual cues that reinforce player or audience empathy and storytelling beats.
- Conduct occasional on-set or location research, gather photographic references, and convert photographic studies into stylized concept work that supports authenticity.
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, new art direction techniques, and competitor visual approaches; integrate learnings to keep the project's visuals contemporary and competitive.

Minimum Education:
