Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Schedule, coordinate, and supervise all on‑site trade activities (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, drywall, finishes) to ensure projects meet scope, timeline, and quality standards while minimizing downtime and rework.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, and shop drawings to plan trade sequencing, identify clashes, communicate clarifications to project engineering, and ensure work is executed according to design intent and contract requirements.
  • Enforce site safety policies and OSHA regulations, conduct daily safety briefings, ensure proper use of PPE, report incidents, and work with the safety manager to implement corrective actions and continuous safety improvements.
  • Assign, mentor, and evaluate foremen, lead hands, and trade crews; develop on‑the‑job training plans to upskill staff, improve productivity, and prepare team members for advancement.
  • Manage subcontractor prequalification, selection, daily coordination, performance monitoring, and hold subcontractors accountable for schedule, quality, and safety deliverables.
  • Maintain and update detailed daily construction reports, labor and equipment logs, material receipts, site diaries, and photographic records for project management, audits, and client communication.
  • Monitor project schedules, coordinate critical path activities with project controls and PMs, propose mitigation plans for delays, and execute recovery strategies to meet milestone dates.
  • Oversee quality control inspections at key milestones, lead punch list creation and resolution, ensure workmanship meets contract standards, and coordinate third‑party inspections and testing as required.
  • Review and process field change orders, RFIs, and submittals with clarity, gather necessary supporting documentation, and communicate impacts on cost and schedule to the project team.
  • Control field costs by monitoring labor productivity, tracking material consumption, minimizing waste, and reporting variances against budget; support the PM in cost forecasting and budget reconciliation.
  • Coordinate procurement and staging of materials and equipment, verify deliveries, manage inventory on site, and ensure protection and proper storage to prevent damage or theft.
  • Conduct regular site walkdowns with clients, architects, engineers, and inspectors to address concerns, capture action items, and ensure timely resolution of technical or coordination issues.
  • Implement and sustain trade‑specific best practices, standard operating procedures, and quality checklists to reduce defects and rework and improve first‑pass yield.
  • Lead commissioning and start‑up activities for building systems, coordinate vendor technicians, complete functional performance tests, and document results for turnover and warranty purposes.
  • Manage equipment allocation and preventive maintenance for site tools, cranes, lifts, and heavy machinery to ensure safe operation and reduce downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, permits, environmental regulations, and union or collective bargaining agreements; liaise with inspection authorities to secure sign‑offs.
  • Facilitate workforce planning and shift scheduling, manage overtime requests, and balance crew loads to meet project priorities while controlling labor costs and morale.
  • Conduct disciplinary actions, labor relations meetings, and conflict resolution with onsite staff and union representatives when necessary to maintain productive site operations.
  • Prepare closeout documentation including as‑built drawings, O&M manuals, warranties, and system certifications to support project turnover and owner acceptance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by collecting key performance indicators (KPIs), analyzing productivity trends, and incorporating lessons learned into future project planning.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for emergency response on site, coordinate immediate actions, communicate with stakeholders, and lead recovery and incident investigations where required.
  • Supervise site housekeeping and environmental controls including erosion control, waste management, hazardous material handling, and site security to maintain a professional and compliant work environment.

Secondary Functions

  • Support preparation of crew staffing plans, resource loading schedules, and subcontractor manpower forecasts to align with project milestones.
  • Assist the project management team in preconstruction activities such as constructability reviews, value engineering suggestions, and sequencing strategies.
  • Participate in weekly coordination meetings, provide field‑based input for schedule updates, and communicate trade constraints to the design and procurement teams.
  • Maintain digital project documentation in construction management platforms (Procore, PlanGrid, Bluebeam) and ensure timely upload of RFI responses, photos, and logs.
  • Work with procurement to validate vendor scope, review delivery lead times, and recommend alternate suppliers when long lead items threaten the schedule.
  • Provide input to estimating and takeoff teams during bidding or change order evaluation by validating labor assumptions and site conditions.
  • Coordinate with quality assurance and commissioning teams to schedule required testing, inspections, and third‑party verifications.
  • Mentor junior supervisors and foremen through structured feedback sessions and field coaching to build bench strength for larger, more complex projects.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Blueprint reading and interpretive skills for architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
