Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Collaborate closely with creative directors, show directors and producers to interpret creative briefs into feasible virtual stage concepts, storyboards and technical specifications for live events and broadcasts.
  • Design and produce final pixel‑mapped content for large LED walls and curved LED volumes, ensuring assets are built to the correct aspect ratios, pixel pitch, and stage geometry to achieve consistent visual fidelity.
  • Build fully interactive real‑time environments in Unreal Engine (or Unity) for virtual production, time‑coded shows and camera-followable XR stages, including level design, lighting, materials and sequencing.
  • Create and optimize 3D assets, textures, materials and shaders (HLSL/GLSL/Material Editor) for real‑time playback to meet strict performance and latency budgets on media servers and game-engine pipelines.
  • Develop previsualizations and animated mockups for client review using storyboards, previs renders, and in-engine camera passes to communicate camera blocking, transitions and timing.
  • Program media servers (e.g., Disguise, Hippotizer, Pandoras Box, ArKaos) and timeline controllers to schedule, blend and output complex layered media cues synchronized to timecode and show control.
  • Execute LED mapping and warping workflows, creating projection/LED masks, bezels, and content alignment profiles and coordinate calibration and grid correction on site.
  • Implement camera tracking integration (ART, Stype, Mo-Sys, Vive trackers, NDI, SMPTE) and motion capture inputs to drive virtual cameras, parallax and live compositing between physical and virtual elements.
  • Integrate spatial audio and ambisonic feeds with visuals where needed to achieve synchronized AV storytelling across live stages and streamed productions.
  • Collaborate with lighting designers and TDs to integrate DMX/ArtNet control and pixel mapping strategies so lighting, media and rigging operate cohesively during cues and transitions.
  • Lead technical rehearsals and dress rehearsals for virtual and hybrid productions, iterating on content, cue timing, camera angles and latency mitigation strategies with camera and vision mixer teams.
  • Manage asset pipelines, version control and naming conventions across art, engineering and production teams; prepare build scripts and deployment packages for fast site installation.
  • Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks on site and in-studio — including GPU/CPU load, texture memory, media-server buffering and synchronization issues — and deploy fixes under tight timelines.
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, cue lists, patch sheets, signal flow diagrams and backup procedures for on-site crews and touring teams.
  • Supervise and mentor junior designers, content artists and interns; distribute tasks, provide feedback and ensure team deliverables meet creative and technical standards.
  • Coordinate with vendors and rental houses for display hardware, LED panels, servers, tracking rigs and networking equipment; manage test installs and compliance checks.
  • Establish color pipelines, LUTs and in-engine color grading protocols with the post and broadcast teams to maintain visual consistency across cameras, LED surfaces and recorded assets.
  • Optimize media codecs, frame rates and compression strategies for multi-format delivery (live-feed, streaming, broadcast, recorded content) to preserve visual quality while minimizing bandwidth.
  • Research and prototype new real-time tools, plugins and workflows (TouchDesigner, Notch, IO, custom Unreal plugins) to push creative possibilities while maintaining reliability for live delivery.
  • Implement safety-conscious rigging and cable management practices for media installations, coordinating with stage managers and rigging crews to comply with venue regulations.
  • Support budget and resource planning by estimating content production schedules, hardware needs, crew sizes and post‑production time for multiple shows or tour legs.
  • Prepare on-site handover and training for venue technical staff and road crews, including runbooks and troubleshooting checklists to ensure consistent show reproduction.
  • Collaborate with broadcast engineers and vision mixers to set up multi-camera composites, chroma keying, and virtual set integrations for live-to-air and remote productions.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Fine Arts, Digital Media, Game Design, Film/TV Production, Theatre Design, Computer Graphics or a closely related field.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Virtual Production, Interactive Media, Media Technology, Lighting and Stage Design, or equivalent professional certifications and demonstrable portfolio.
