Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Conduct comprehensive digital audits and examinations of individual and corporate tax returns to ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations.
- Analyze large, complex datasets from e-filing systems using data analytics tools (like SQL, Power BI, or advanced Excel) to identify patterns of non-compliance, tax evasion, and fraudulent activity.
- Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of electronically filed tax returns, including validation, processing, assessment, and the issuance of refunds or notices.
- Provide expert guidance and high-quality support to taxpayers and their representatives through digital channels, such as secure portals, email, and live chat, on matters of e-filing and tax obligations.
- Utilize specialized tax administration software and CRM systems to manage a portfolio of cases, track interactions, and ensure timely resolution in line with service level agreements.
- Interpret and apply complex tax legislation, administrative rulings, and court precedents to specific cases within the digital tax environment.
- Prepare detailed and legally sound digital case files, audit reports, and notices of assessment, ensuring all findings are thoroughly documented and supported by evidence.
- Collaborate with IT, UX, and software development teams to test, troubleshoot, and provide user-centric feedback on new and existing e-tax platforms and taxpayer-facing applications.
- Develop and refine risk-based assessment models and algorithms to automatically score and prioritize tax returns for digital examination and human review.
- Represent the revenue authority in dispute resolution processes, including formal objections and appeals, by preparing robust arguments and evidence files.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends in tax technology (FinTech), digital economies, cryptocurrencies, and international e-commerce to inform and adapt compliance strategies.
- Ensure the absolute integrity, security, and confidentiality of sensitive taxpayer data in accordance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR) and internal security protocols.
Secondary Functions
- Liaise with financial institutions, other government agencies, and third-party data providers to electronically verify taxpayer information and support compliance activities.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs and documentation for internal staff and external stakeholders on the use of new e-tax systems and procedures.
- Monitor and manage electronic payment channels, assisting in the reconciliation of transactions and resolving payment allocation discrepancies in taxpayer accounts.
