  • Define and implement a comprehensive E2E test strategy that covers UI, API, integration, contract, regression, smoke, and acceptance tests for microservices and monoliths, aligned to product risk and release cadence.
  • Build and maintain robust API test suites using REST-assured, Postman, HTTP client libraries, or custom Python/Java frameworks to validate RESTful and gRPC endpoints, response schemas, error handling, and authentication flows.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps) to enable gated builds, fast feedback loops, and automated release gating for staging and production deployments.
  • Create, manage, and version test environments and test data strategies including service virtualization, test doubles, database seeding, and synthetic data to enable stable, repeatable E2E test execution.
  • Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, and DevOps to define exit criteria, quality gates, and release readiness checklists; make data-driven go/no-go recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Implement and own test flakiness reduction practices, including root-cause analysis, test stabilization patterns, retry strategies, parallelization improvements, and environment hardening.
  • Design and execute performance, load, stress, and endurance testing using JMeter, Gatling, k6, or similar tools to validate scalability, SLA compliance, and resource utilization for critical user journeys.
  • Conduct security and vulnerability scanning for application and API layers, integrate automated security tests (DAST/SAST basics, OWASP checks) into the pipeline, and partner with security teams to remediate findings.
  • Lead test planning and test case design for complex cross-system flows, translating acceptance criteria into detailed E2E scenarios and executable automation backed by clear traceability to requirements.
  • Implement Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) practices with Gherkin and Cucumber/SpecFlow to align acceptance criteria, automation, and business expectations across product and QA teams.
  • Drive shift-left quality by embedding tests and validations into feature branches, code reviews, and pre-merge checks, and by coaching engineers on writing unit and integration tests that reduce downstream E2E test surface.
  • Instrument automated tests with observability best practices—logging, metrics, traces—and integrate test results with dashboards (Grafana, Kibana) and alerting to track health of test suites and production readiness.
  • Lead cross-functional bug triage sessions, manage defect lifecycle, prioritize remediation with engineering leadership, and own root-cause analysis for critical defects found in staging or production.
  • Design and maintain test coverage metrics, quality dashboards, and release-level KPIs (test pass rate, mean time to detect, defect density, test execution time) to inform continuous improvement efforts.
  • Mentor and coach junior QA engineers and SDETs on automation patterns, test design, programming best practices (Java, Python, TypeScript), and effective CI/CD integration to raise team capability.
  • Architect and evolve test automation architecture to support parallel execution, containerized test runners (Docker), and orchestration on Kubernetes or cloud CI agents to reduce feedback cycles.
  • Coordinate end-to-end testing across multiple teams for major releases, orchestrating cross-team test suites, dependency testing, and blackout window planning for production-impacting launches.
  • Implement contract testing (PACT or equivalent) for microservices to ensure compatibility and prevent integration regressions between service consumers and providers.
  • Manage mobile E2E and cross-platform validation using Appium, device farms (BrowserStack, Sauce Labs), and native testing frameworks to ensure consistent behavior across iOS and Android.
  • Evaluate and recommend test tooling, automation investments, and process changes; lead pilots and rollouts of new testing technologies and practices that measurably improve quality or productivity.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis.
  • Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements.
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies within the data engineering team.
  • Document test processes, runbooks, and post-release retrospectives to capture lessons learned and action items for continuous improvement.
  • Provide hands-on support for incident post-mortems, contributing test evidence, reproductions, and test-case improvements to prevent recurrence.
  • Assist with test environment capacity planning and coordinate provisioning with platform and cloud teams to ensure adequate resources for E2E test runs.
  • Help define compliance, audit, and release documentation for regulated environments and provide evidence for quality assessments when required.
