Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Provide intensive, on-site, and virtual reflective coaching and mentoring to early childhood educators to improve instructional practices and teacher-child interactions.
  • Conduct formal and informal classroom observations using standardized assessment tools such as the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and the Environment Rating Scales (ERS).
  • Collaborate with teachers and directors to develop, implement, and monitor individualized professional development plans and program-wide quality improvement goals.
  • Design, facilitate, and deliver engaging, evidence-based professional development workshops and training sessions on a wide range of early childhood topics.
  • Support the selection and effective implementation of developmentally appropriate, evidence-based curricula and child assessment systems (e.g., Teaching Strategies GOLD).
  • Model effective teaching strategies, positive behavior guidance techniques, and language-rich interactions directly in early learning classrooms.
  • Guide programs in creating and maintaining high-quality, inclusive, and stimulating learning environments that meet the diverse needs of all children, including those with special needs and dual language learners.
  • Build and maintain strong, trusting, and collaborative relationships with program directors, teaching staff, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Assist early learning programs in understanding and navigating state licensing regulations, accreditation standards (e.g., NAEYC), and Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) requirements.
  • Analyze observation and assessment data to identify trends, celebrate strengths, and provide data-informed feedback and targeted support to educators.
  • Develop and disseminate high-quality resources, tip sheets, and materials to support continuous quality improvement efforts across a network of providers.
  • Facilitate communities of practice or peer learning circles to foster collaboration and shared learning among early childhood professionals.
  • Provide expert technical assistance on topics such as child development theory, curriculum planning, family engagement strategies, and classroom management.
  • Stay current with emerging research, trends, and best practices in the field of early childhood education and adult learning principles.
  • Support programs in developing robust family engagement strategies that are culturally responsive and build strong school-home partnerships.
  • Document all coaching, training, and technical assistance activities accurately and in a timely manner using designated data management systems.
  • Participate in case consultations and interdisciplinary team meetings to support individual children's developmental and behavioral needs.
  • Administer and interpret child screening tools (e.g., ASQ:SE-2) and support teachers in using screening data to inform instruction.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of the organization's coaching model, training materials, and service delivery protocols.
  • Represent the organization at community meetings, conferences, and professional events to promote high-quality early learning.
  • Mediate and provide guidance on challenging situations between staff, or between staff and families, to ensure a positive and professional environment.
  • Advise on the appropriate use of technology in the early childhood classroom to enhance learning without replacing hands-on experiences.

Secondary Functions

  • Prepare and submit detailed narrative and data reports to funders, program leadership, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Assist in the coordination and logistics of large-scale training events, including material preparation and site setup.
  • Contribute to grant proposals and reporting by providing programmatic insights, success stories, and relevant data.
  • Participate in internal team meetings, strategic planning sessions, and professional development to enhance personal and team effectiveness.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Expertise in child development principles and early learning theory for ages 0-5.
  • Certified reliability in assessment tools like CLASS (Pre-K, Toddler, Infant) and/or Environment Rating Scales (ITERS-3, ECERS-3).
  • In-depth knowledge of at least one major evidence-based ECE curriculum (e.g., The Creative Curriculum, HighScope).
  • Familiarity with state-specific Quality Rating and Improvement Systems (QRIS) and child care licensing standards.
  • Proficiency in using virtual coaching and meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) and MS Office Suite.
  • Experience with child assessment systems such as Teaching Strategies GOLD (TSG) or Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP).

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
