Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design, plan, and implement a developmentally appropriate, emergent curriculum that aligns with early learning standards and the center's educational philosophy.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that encourages children's curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Conduct regular observations and assessments of each child's development using formal and informal tools to track progress and inform lesson planning.
  • Establish and maintain open, collaborative communication with parents and guardians through daily reports, newsletters, conferences, and digital platforms.
  • Guide children in developing their social-emotional skills, including self-regulation, empathy, and positive peer interactions, through modeling and direct instruction.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all children by consistently adhering to state licensing regulations, sanitation procedures, and emergency protocols.
  • Create and maintain a stimulating and organized classroom environment, intentionally arranging learning centers and materials to support child-led discovery.
  • Facilitate a variety of activities and learning experiences, including sensory play, literacy and language development, basic math and science concepts, art, and music.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the unique needs, abilities, and interests of each child in the classroom, including those with diverse needs.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively and proactively using positive guidance techniques and strategies that promote self-control and respect.
  • Prepare detailed and engaging lesson plans on a weekly or bi-weekly basis that outline learning objectives, activities, and required materials.
  • Document children's learning and experiences through portfolios, photographs, and anecdotal notes to share with families and for assessment purposes.
  • Collaborate with co-teachers and support staff to create a cohesive teaching team, sharing responsibilities and insights to benefit the children.
  • Integrate technology appropriately into the classroom to enhance learning experiences and streamline parent communication.
  • Model and promote healthy habits, including proper hygiene, nutrition, and physical activity, throughout the daily routine.
  • Organize and supervise indoor and outdoor play activities, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for physical development.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences to discuss child progress, share observations, and develop collaborative strategies to support development at home and school.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records, including attendance, incident reports, and child development files, in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, professional development workshops, and training sessions to stay current with best practices in early childhood education.
  • Support children during transition times (e.g., arrival, departure, nap time) to ensure they are smooth, predictable, and comforting.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a related field, OR a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential with relevant experience.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Elementary Education with an ECE focus.
