Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Measure, cut, and form eavestrough sections, downspouts, and related components to precise lengths and angles using hand tools, power tools, and metal brakes.
  • Securely install eavestrough systems, downspouts, soffit, and fascia on residential and commercial buildings according to work orders, blueprints, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure the proper pitch and alignment of gutters for optimal water flow and effective drainage away from the building's foundation.
  • Safely set up, operate, and work from ladders, scaffolding, and aerial work platforms at various heights, strictly adhering to all fall protection and safety protocols.
  • Inspect and assess existing eavestrough systems to accurately diagnose issues and recommend necessary repairs, full replacements, or cleaning services.
  • Remove old or damaged gutter systems and prepare the installation surface, which may include cleaning and repairing the fascia board and soffit.
  • Apply high-quality sealants and caulking to all joints, seams, and end caps to create a durable, watertight seal that prevents leaks.
  • Install supplementary products such as gutter guards, leaf screens, and splash guards to enhance the performance and reduce maintenance of the drainage system.
  • Read and interpret work orders and project diagrams to understand job specifications, material requirements, and client expectations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve installation challenges and drainage issues on-site, implementing effective and efficient solutions to overcome unforeseen obstacles.
  • Bend and shape aluminum, steel, and other sheet metals to create custom-fit corners, end caps, and flashing for a professional finish.
  • Conduct final quality assurance checks and perform a walkthrough with the client or site supervisor to confirm project completion and ensure total customer satisfaction.
  • Operate a seamless gutter machine on-site to produce custom-length eavestroughs tailored to each specific building.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, ensuring the job site is free of debris and tools are secured at the end of each day.
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with clients on-site to provide project updates, answer questions, and address any concerns.
  • Work collaboratively as a key member of an installation crew, assisting team members and communicating effectively to ensure safety, efficiency, and high-quality results.
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on installation tools, equipment, and company vehicles to ensure they are in safe, working order.
  • Load and unload building materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring all necessary components for the day's projects are accounted for and transported safely.
  • Complete all required project documentation, including work orders, service reports, time sheets, and material usage logs, with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Actively participate in regular safety meetings and training sessions to stay current on best practices, company policies, and regulatory requirements like WHMIS and Working at Heights.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Eavestrough & Gutter Installation: Demonstrated experience in installing, repairing, and replacing seamless and sectional gutter systems.
  • Working at Heights: Certified and comfortable working safely on ladders, scaffolding, and roofs for extended periods. Proficient in fall arrest systems.
  • Power Tool Proficiency: Skilled in the safe operation of drills, impact drivers, chop saws, grinders, and sheet metal brakes.
  • Accurate Measuring: Ability to use a tape measure to take precise measurements and perform accurate calculations for material cutting.
    -Soffit & Fascia Installation: Experience installing, repairing, and capping soffit and fascia as part of the complete eavestrough system.
  • Material Knowledge: Familiarity with various materials including aluminum, steel, and copper, and their specific installation requirements.
  • Valid Driver's License: A valid license with a clean driving abstract is required to operate company vehicles.

Soft Skills

  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail to ensure precise cuts, proper alignment, clean caulking lines, and a flawless finish.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education:

Completion of a vocational or trade school program in carpentry, sheet metal, or a related construction field.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years of direct experience in eavestrough installation or a closely related trade (e.g., siding, roofing).

Preferred: 3+ years of professional experience as a lead installer or working with a variety of residential and commercial gutter systems. Experience operating a seamless gutter machine is a significant asset. We are willing to train candidates with a strong background in construction and a proven aptitude for the work.
