Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Collaborate closely with the Lead Teacher to implement a dynamic, play-based curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and addresses the holistic needs of each child.
  • Actively supervise and engage with children during all classroom activities, mealtimes, and outdoor play to ensure their physical safety and emotional well-being.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere by modeling respectful communication, encouraging pro-social behaviors like sharing and cooperation, and gently guiding conflict resolution.
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain all classroom materials, learning centers, and educational resources to ensure they are accessible, clean, and ready for daily activities.
  • Assist in creating a stimulating and orderly physical environment, including setting up learning stations, displaying children's work, and performing regular cleaning and sanitization of toys and surfaces.
  • Document and track individual children's developmental milestones, learning progress, and significant behaviors through systematic observation and anecdotal records.
  • Support children's fundamental personal care and hygiene routines, including handwashing, toileting, and diapering, with dignity, patience, and adherence to health standards.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with parents and guardians through friendly daily interactions, providing updates on their child's day and reinforcing a collaborative home-school partnership.
  • Implement positive guidance strategies and classroom management techniques to support children in developing self-regulation and positive behavior patterns.
  • Assist in the preparation and serving of nutritious snacks and meals, carefully accommodating all documented dietary restrictions, allergies, and nutritional needs.
  • Read stories, lead songs, and facilitate group activities that promote early literacy, numeracy, and language development in a fun and engaging manner.
  • Adapt activities and provide individualized support to meet the diverse learning styles, abilities, and needs of all children in the classroom, including those requiring extra assistance.
  • Uphold all state licensing regulations, health and safety protocols, and center-specific policies to maintain a compliant and secure environment at all times.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings, professional development workshops, and ongoing training to stay current with best practices and new research in early childhood education.
  • Maintain open, professional, and collaborative communication with the Lead Teacher and other team members to ensure a cohesive and effective educational program.
  • Escort and supervise children during transitions between classrooms, to the playground, and on any field trips, maintaining accurate headcounts and safety procedures.
  • Comfort children who are upset or injured, providing appropriate first aid when necessary and communicating incidents clearly to the Lead Teacher and parents.
  • Assist in administering and documenting informal and formal assessments of children's skills and development as directed by the Lead Teacher.
  • Contribute creative ideas for lesson plans, thematic units, and special classroom events that enrich the learning experience.
  • Set up and supervise rest or nap times, creating a calm and peaceful atmosphere that allows children to recharge.

Secondary Functions

  • Support the Lead Teacher with ad-hoc observational data collection and documentation required for parent-teacher conferences and student portfolios.
  • Contribute to the center's educational philosophy and program improvement initiatives by providing valuable classroom feedback and insights.
  • Collaborate with the center's administration and fellow educators to ensure curriculum alignment and consistent implementation of policies across all classrooms.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings, curriculum planning sessions, and mandatory professional development workshops to foster team cohesion and skill enhancement.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • CPR and First Aid Certification: Current certification for infants and children is often mandatory.
  • Knowledge of Child Development: Understanding of key developmental stages (social, emotional, cognitive, physical) in early childhood.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a closely related field.
